Have an 06 tundra and looking to get a newer one.(may have totaled my current one). Read to stay away from 07 and 12. Looking for s 2013-16 to stay in budget. I tow a gutter machine and I'm not sure whether to look at the 4.6 or the 5.7 gas mileage isn't really too different between the two. Any suggestions? This will also be my daily driver.

Welcome from the wet side of WA.

I had a 2008 5.7L that I bought in 2009 with 13k on it, and drove it until last fall at 298k. Only issue I ever had was two water pumps (~110k and ~230k), and the air induction pumps (Hewitt bypass fixed that). Not sure why to avoid a 2012 - that's pretty much middle of the Gen 2's there. If it were ME, with the range you're looking for, I'd be hunting a 2016 because that is the year they added the 38-gallon fuel tank (as an option - not all models have it). Fuel mileage is what it is, but that extra 12 gallons is roughly 50% more useable range.

Welcome from Nor Kal.... I'd evade the FFV... that's about it... I'm an 07 owner with 227K... Water pump at 25K, Starter at 207k, and a shit load of batteries in between... LOL.... that's it though...

Thanks guys. I loved my 06 and ran strong. Had 185k and I'm sure would have doubled that. No major repairs. Just an alternator and batteries.

Second on the fuel tank. I have a '16 with it, it's great. It allows me to get more mileage per tank...lol but seriously less stopping for fillups is great.
