Hi all. We are in the process of buying a Grand Design 3170BH..the dry weight is 8100 pounds and the hitch weight is 794lb. We are also adding the Equalizer weight distribution hitch. I have been back and forth on my 2018 CrewMax TRD 4x4 capability of towing this..Anyone tow something similar in size?

    Thanks!

    Function before sparkle.
That is a heavy trailer for any half ton, especially the tongue weight loaded. I would recommend a different trailer or a heavy duty truck.

Too much trailer for the tundra imo.
Probably could tow it, but you might be white knuckling it the whole time and that's not a good beg/end to a camping trip.

We've been looking at Grand Design too. The 3170 is big for a bumper pull (and a 1/2 ton truck). 36' 11" and gvwr 9500 lbs. But it IS a nice rig.

Right now we like the 2670MK, which is still heavier on the tongue than I'd prefer at 690 (gvwr 8500, 32' 3" total length) and the 2250RK which is a more manageable 515 on the tongue and gvwr of 7500 @ 27' 11".

Obviously, we don't have kids to tote around, but according to the decal my truck only has 1270 lbs of available payload, and I'm already using 70 of that with my bed cover. Less me and the wife, and we only have about 900 total to spare.

I had a Nash 26x. The dry hitch weight was 750 lbs. by the time I loaded it for travel, my hitch weight was 1,150 lbs. Even with my 3/4 ton Ford I needed air bags. I would not recommend any travel trailer with a hitch dry weight of over 650 lbs.

Ask one of your friends that have a flatbed trailer, or TT with the approximate weight.

If you find someone with a flatbed trailer rated at 10k or more...just load their truck on it and hook up and go.

    Enjoy your new truck.

I have a Grand Design 2800BH. It is 6200# dry and 600# hitch. When realistically loaded it pushes my 16 Crewmax to the rated limits, and that is without water or waste. That large of a trailer with a Tundra could be a dangerous combination. Keep in mind the the Equalizer WDH does not increase the capacity of your truck. Please consider a lighter trailer or a 3/4 ton+ truck.

That sounds like it might be pushing the limits of a Tundra. It could tow it just fine, but you might run into trouble with stopping it in an emergency or controlling the trailer going down the interstate when a storm rolls in. I would vote to look at something a little more manageable with these trucks.
No fun to have a white knuckle experience every time you take your camper out!

Too much for a CrewMax, pushing the limits on a DC or regular cab.

We have a GD 2670MK that we pull with our Tundra and it pulls it fine. That was the largest I was willing to go with my truck. I have added a rear sway bar and air bags and will be upgrading my tires soon. The Tundra has no issues with towing the trailer but I am careful about how much and where I load things in my trailer.
