    Hi everyone,

I’m looking to buy my first truck and I’m looking for a tundra so I can pull my trailer and also a camper. I am looking for advice on things to stay away from or years etc…. I have my eye set on a 2007-12 model as my budget is 15k. Any helpful information on what to expect out of these trucks would be great.

    Thanks,
    Adam

Welcome and greetings from Minnesota. Advice? We’re full of it here! 5.7 is the way to go. Make sure you throughly check out the frame for excessive rust.

Thanks. Does the tundra have any consistent issues that would be nice to know. I used to have a Nissan Titan and there rear differentials were always going out and needing to be replaced.

The Tundra is consistently thirsty. That’s about it. You’ll hear about cam tower leaks. The vast majority of these are just seepage. It isn’t enough to require adding oil between changes or even enough to cause an oil spot wherever you park. It’s annoying and offensive to Toyota owners because we demand near perfection.

Find one with great maintenance records. Continue that schedule, and it will take care of you.

Lastly, I know your budget is $15k, but if you could save up some more or finance to get into a 2016+ with the 38-gallon tank, it’s a game changer.

Welcome, as others have mentioned the biggest thing to check is rust particularly on the frame and proper maintenance records.

Because it's 11-1/2 gallons bigger. If you're traveling with a load, it's nice to get 100+ more miles between fill ups.
