Hi and thanks for having me here. I'm seriously looking at a silver 2013 Tundra Crewmax Platinum with 5.7 and 6 Speed Auto, 200k on it. What to look at, what to watch for. I know the mileage is up there a bit and that's why I'm here. Ok, it's a one owner with all the bells and whistles. Good rubber, great original paint, great interior and runs perfect. All the records are there and it was well kept. They're asking $15,995. So my questions are these: Hows that 5.7 gonna hold up over time / 200,000 MI. Is it going to need something soon? Timing chains, etc. How about that six-speed transmission and on the Fly 4 wheel drive? Anything with brakes, power steering, drivetrain... Anything you can think of I'd appreciate hearing it. Thanks in advance!

I wouldn’t let the miles scare you. The 5.7 is a strong motor and built to last. All service records a huge plus. Platinum so it’s a high level trim. Price seems pretty good. Take it for a drive and look it over with a fine tooth comb and then if you like it offer him 14k and get it for as cheap as possible! Good luck
Edit: I just paid 13,500 for a 2010 Rock Warrior with 163k and I feel like it was a steal

Update: First, thanks to e everybody for chipping in. It's nice to know you all hold these trucks in such high regard. Well, it keeps getting curiouser and curiouser. My bank doesn't want to finance the truck because it has over 125,000 miles on it. Well poo, aren't they a bunch of kill joys. So, now I gotta decide if I want to tap my reserves. Poo again. How bad do I want it? Dunno yet. My plan is to take your advice and give it a really close look Friday. I like the idea of offering 14k. Who knows, times are tough. Maybe they'll bite. Fingers crossed

yeah. 14k is in good shape is a good deal. I bought a crewmax platinum with 230K on in for a little more than that and feel i paid too much. Mine was well maitnained but needed tires and was ready for a full service. the truck should be solid for a long time

Most of the service needed is pretty easy to do yourself (trans fluid change, spark plugs, gear oil and transfer case)

some otherthings to consider- flex fuel issues, possible steering rack bushings, shocks, balljoints.

if you can afford it it almost makes more sense to spend more and find a low mile tundra, since they hold their value so well.

Thanks Jeffro22, I'm going to look close at it tomorrow and I'll keep those things in mind. Lower miles Tundra's are definitely worth keeping in mind. This one's pretty but 200k is 200k.

I watched the tundra market for about 2 years (craigslist, Facebook market, eBay) looking for a good deal. Tundras hold their value very well and they don’t sell for cheap. Also, I have had past success buying cheap vehicles that need repairs. There are never tundras for sale that need repairs (unless they have been wrecked, I’m talking transmissions, transfer case, engine work, etc).
If you find a good deal, jump on it. They don’t come around often.

Leaking water pump, rear wheel bearings, blown shocks, brake pads, make sure 4WD and A/C works. Many will say CAM tower leak but for me really a none issue, it’s more like a seep than a leak. If it’s not dripping onto the exhaust I wouldn’t worry about it, looking at a truck with 200k you will have to check your OCD at the door and deal with some maintenance.

When I bought my rig it had 85K on it with a full drive train for life warranty. Bought it at the dealer, they would not budge. I still felt it was worth the money. You can find them, but as dorks68 and Jeffro22 stated they won't be cheap. I paid high blue book on it, and I was ok with it, but I like my truck and would not consider any other brand. I have owned all kinds of Toyota's and keeping up on regular maintenance is the key to success. I think you will be happy with what ever you find. Also 200K if it is not a daily driver I would not even concern my self with the millage as long as it is in good shape, and sounds like it has been taken care of. And even if you drove it everyday I still would not worry about it. Every vehicle has it's issues, you just have to deal with it when the time comes. Per Capita I would say that Toyota has very little issues. I know you hear stories but as they say there are always squeaky wheels that make noise. Sometimes when reading things just think about this, millions of people own Toyota's and if they were that bad people would not buy them. And a lot of them are made in the USA!:)

Thanks Dorks68, ckkone and FWD Tundra. Good to know info. As I said, I'll check it close. Things like brakes, shocks, water pumps, etc don't bother me. Stuff wears out and trucks is trucks. Just hoping it's a good one. We'll see tomorrow.

Well, I took a good close look at the truck and unfortunately I think I'm going to pass. It does run and drive well but the oil was not changed as much as I'd hoped. 12000 miles mostly between changes and 20 thousand a couple of times. I don't know about the transmission, no records. The interior is also well used. Oh well, maybe next time. Thanks!

    20,000 miles between oil changes?!?
They obviously misrepresented it as a “well kept truck”.
    Bummer bro. The search continues...

Yeah, one was 20,000 miles. Well kept, ha! The Carfax said he was changing it at about 12,000 miles since it was new but then... Too bad, I really did like the truck. It drove great but my sixth sense was going off so no way. Eh, they're be others.

I am at 414K miles on my 2011 Tundra. Only issues so far have been starter, alternator and a fuel pump. 200K if it has been maintained shouldn't be a issue.
