So please correct me if I've been misinformed but I have lost the keys to my truck, dealerships told me no problem, we can program you a new one but it has to be towed here so I was like that. Sucks but whatever did that. And then they called me and formed me that in this particular model which is one of only two ever made like that, you cannot program new keys without having one to copy and you must replace the transponder ECU because it cannot be reset or reprogrammed in any way. They quoted me almost 1400 after everything said and done just to be able to start my truck again and they're not even sure if I can get the part because it has been discontinued. They said my only other option was to look for a used one but I also need the keys and ignition cylinder for it so I'm hoping somebody has a parts truck but I might be able to those parts for a reasonable price because even if they can get the part I cannot afford to pay that much right now and I need my truck so badly.
Apparently only the trucks sold in Canada have the separate transponder ECU but I was wondering if I replaced the ECU with one from a tundra sold in the US would I be able to get a new key programmed for it. I would think if it's the same model and engine etc it should work if I disconnect or delete the separate transponder ECU ??
