I accidentally posted in the wrong forum initially, but here goes. I'm looking for a clean 1GT, AC, 4x4, preferably 2003-2006, for my hunting/camping rig. It's been quite the challenge to say the least. I did find this 2006 which spent its life in Colorado and thus, has some rust underneath. I live in San Diego so rust is foreign to me. Is this rust underneath purely cosmetic or has it started to get out of hand already? This is the video that was sent to me by the owner, so it's not extremely detailed.
I'm looking for some input as to whether I should bother with it or just move on. I can probably get it between $8500-$9000. What do you all think?

I don't think thats too much rust either. If I were looking for a best gen I'd be looking for lower mileage though. Just my .02

Sorry @OldGuy03 but 199k is low on a BEST GEN and the price is right!

I was thinking it was about average for some of the “lower” mileage trucks. Is the rust going to be easily cleaned up and prevented from worsening given the fact I’m in southern CA? $8500 wouldn’t be too bad either…

One more thing, if you didn’t read the post that @OldGuy03 put up in the other thread, YOU NEED TO! IT IS THE FGT BIBLE! @shifty` worked hard to put a lot of valuable information together in one spot. Read it and read it often

I don't think it's too many miles. Just too many for me. You're spot on about price though. I was crushing auto trader earlier and I've seen some ridiculous price hikes on trucks under 100k.

Here’s a little bit of fun information… I have owned my truck for going on 18 years. I’m the second owner. The first owner put 40k on her and only had her serviced at a Toyota dealership. In the 18 years I have owned her, I have only had her serviced at my dealership. I have every single maintenance record ever for my truck. I have put 270,000 miles on that truck. Even though I have owned my truck as long as I have, I still learn new shit about her every day from this place. These are good folks here.

I'm in Total agreement with you @The Black Mamba. I drove my 06 to well north of 300k miles and it was still running great and pulling loads like the day I bought it. And all I ever did to it was drive it and replace consumables. Personally for me I like to buy used trucks in the 70k range because then I get to drive it for that 270k or so before I let it go. So I get why you're saying 199 isn't that much. The best advice I can give to you @southof37 is buy the best truck you can afford at your time of purchase. You're not going to be disappointed with choosing a best gen if you do your due diligence on rust inspection and maintenance records. They just flat out perform. For decades.

Hi , My 2 cents......I live in San Diego also. It shouldn't be a challenge to find a rust free truck here. Check Craigslist, OfferUp and Face book Marketplace....get set up to provide notifications.

There are clean original and also upgraded trucks listed very frequently, just have to be diligent and consistent in your search. Good luck.

One more thing that I will add… My odometer right now is at 308. Last year I dumped $3k into suspension and steering components. In about three months, I am planning a major reseal (valve covers, tube seals, cam seals, rear main) along with timing belt, again, and plugs. What that means is, I have absolutely no doubts in my truck. I am planning on another 90,000 miles until the next TB.

Actually you really do want higher mileage on the 1st gen’s. The 2UZ benefits from it. There is a TON of nasty shit that can happen with short trip driving on the 2UZ. Several of us 1st gen dudes have gotten bit on that one. (Me included, bought a 60k mile truck, currently at 76k)

This doesn’t have a 5.7 in it. It’s not a Dodge, Ford or GM. 125k-175k is the sweet spot break-in range. The 1st gen’s V8 drivetrain is widely regarded as a million mile drivetrain.

Not trying to persuade you. We like people to have that attitude. Gives others who want one an easier buy-in ;)

(Even if you are a former 1GT owner :D)

No. 24 miles round trip. I alternate between my truck and my Impreza. I literally drive this truck every other workday. I bought the Impreza for its fuel economy and speed, but it’s not my taste. I just couldn’t bring myself to buy a second truck. I always thought that I would just drive the Impreza daily and maybe the truck on the weekends, but I can’t bring myself to not drive it. I hate driving that Impreza, but I need to justify owning it.

I guess I hadn't thought of that. That's a really good point you make here. I know when I had mine I was putting lots of miles on it driving it all over the west pulling double stacked rafts to idaho, the Grand Canyon, Colorado, Washington and Oregon. Plus all the beer we could drink on a weeklong river trip. A lot of guys on here would tell me I was overweight for sure. And they were right. But my truck never faltered. I still miss that rig. Had custom alcans, 5100's, stop-tech rotors airbags. Rode like a dream under all that weight.

    For the note @shifty`
