I own a 2002 with 177,000 miles plus, and cannot afford a new Tundra, I read about rodents chewing into soy based wiring. I live in the woods so I need to avoid those trucks, what years do I need to avoid? Thanks

Like @dandailey, I don't believe any year is immune to this issue.

Rodents can go to hell for all I care. Currently trying to catch a groundhog that has burrowed under my bay window.

I've had problems with rodents chewing on my cars before. My old 1993 Toyota pickup, they chewed almost all the way through the rubber fuel hose that connects into the fuel injection rail. Luckily I spotted this and replaced the line, but that whole truck could have burned into one huge crisp because of that.

Dad has had problems with rodents in his extra car he parks outside(2000 Toyota Avalon), chipmunk made a nest on top of the fuel tank and ate through a fuel return line. Then a squirrel made a nest in the engine bay, took a ride on the serpentine belt. Made a HUGE mess and broke two belts, I'm sure you can still find bits of squirrel guts in the engine bay on that car.

Anyways, the common denominator is neither of these cars were daily drivers, they'd sit parked for a few days, maybe a few weeks in a row outside without being started up and driven. I know my truck, it was black with broken a/c, it would sit parked during the summer unless I had something to haul.

Also a tip here, I don't know what your budget and expectations are like, but I was originally looking in that 13-17k price range and was finding nothing but beat up junk or beat up junk with a ton of miles on it. Upped my budget to around 20k, found a lot more nice stuff, ended up buying a super clean 2011, 4.6 V8, 4wd, double cab with 56k miles for $20,000.
