As some quick background, I owned a Lexus RX as my first Toyota product about 10 years ago and have been sold on the value / reliability since then, owning a 2016 Tacoma, multiple lexus's (RX, GX).

As life has evolved a bit, I find myself needing more hauling capability and as such have started to look at the Tundra. The powertrain is pretty much unchanged from the 2007/8 model year, and I am likely to pull the trigger on the *new* 2021/2 Tundra when it's released (gas mileage, interior, power, etc.). As some additional background, I put very few miles on my vehicles as I work from home and it would be primarily used for daycare / weekend chores and towing.

    So here's my question:

I currently have a few options ahead of the 2022 release ...
    1) Buy a gently used (16-18) CPO or non-CPO Tundra and trade for the new truck when it comes out
    2) Look for a clean earlier model Tundra +/- 2010 with ~100k miles and keep it forever, or until I run out of space in the garage

Thanks in advance for the feedback!

You know, if you do your leg work and research, you can find a great older truck. Just know what to look for, like the cam tower leak and rear diff seepage, possible frame rusting and overall condition.
A lot of people like the models before 2018 with less nannies (collision sensors) and there's also different trim levels you'd look into that serves your needs best.
Then the CrewMax vs. Double Cab debate. Pavement princess or off-road capabilities. Just on what you want it to do really.

And if you get non-CPO see if there's still a warranty if you find it has issues, then get that in to be fixed.

That makes sense and thank you for the info. on the leakage / cam tower. I am really trying to decide if a higher mileage Tundra is worth any potential headaches for the few years I will be waiting, or if I should just pony up for a newer (used) model. I've heard a ton about the reliability of these trucks beyond 100k miles, but realize it depends a lot on how the truck has been maintained. I am looking for CrewMax/5.7L, but that's really the only specification that I'm firm on.
