I'm going to a somewhat local dealer after work tomorrow to look at what appears to be a clean (both in pics and on Carfax) 2020 Tundra Off Road, extended cab, 6 foot bed, with about 25,000 miles on it and it appears to have lived it's life locally. Dealer is right around 40K which while above average I'd imagine the low mileage is driving the price up. It's got the tow package with the built in brake controller (which I'm assuming was an option). Just wanted to hear some feedback from people more experienced with these trucks. Fortunately the powertrain warranty is still good for 8 more months so if there's a problem with something like the cam towers leaking it's still covered. Anything I should look for besides the cam tower and timing cover leaks?

    Thanks!

Check for rust, it might give you some negotiating room. Check the tires out. My original tires only lasted to about 35k

Salt country definitely could be rusty.

That price is the going rate for a gen 2.5 25k mile 5.7 4x4, which makes sense, might be able to get a small discount if you find alternatives locally.

I don’t think there is such a thing as a Tow package for these years. All Tundras came with brake controllers in 2020/2021 I believe.

But double cabs are the best cab configuration and especially if you like the color/has a cool color and no rust then go for it.

Thanks. The double cab is plenty big and the Crewmax bed size is a deal breaker for me so this is just the right combo for me. It's Barcelona Red, I'm not a "red guy" but I'm not opposed to it. I printed out the vehicle details sheet from Toyota and it says "Tow Package" for what it's worth. It's got the big fuel tank as part of the "SP SR5 Upgrade Package" which seems to add a few things I will really like having. Fortunately it's not up in the NY snowbelt and we've had weak winters the past 4 years so it shouldn't be too rusty.

Sounds like a great truck! I like my double cab as well. I use my truck for a camping vehicle with a truck bed tent, so I need the longer bed to have enough space.

One thing to be aware of with these 5.7 Tundras: do not skip having your coolant flushed every 45-50k miles. Not there yet of course but it'll come soon enough. Coolant can turn acidic and cause head gasket failures, so that piece of maintenance is a big one, and sometimes gets overlooked. Keep that and other maintenance up and these trucks can outlive us all...

Yes. I saw the video on the head gasket issues due to coolant turning acidic. Having owned several late 90's - early 2000's GM's I know how that goes. Even though the mileage is low IMO it's the years that turn the coolant so I'll be doing a drain and fill sooner rather than later.

I took a day to think about it but I called them today, negotiated a little, pulled the trigger, and left a deposit. I ended up getting it for basically 39K flat before tax and what turned out to be a very reasonable "doc fee" for this area. There really wasn't anything to nit pick on the truck. Engine & trans were bone dry, underneath was more rust free than one would expect for a NJ truck, the only thing I could pick at was the fact it had the original tires from 2020 and they were beginning to weather check a tiny bit along the outside edge of the tread. I figure the money I got them to take off will either pay for 4 cheap tires or more likely get put towards doing wheels, tires, and a set of 5100's for a little lift down the road. Hoping the bank can get me a check Monday so I can pick the truck up Tuesday. Thanks everyone for your input.

In the future if you do use your truck for any towing and aren’t impressed by the factory trailer brake controller, I would recommend installing a Tekonsha P3 controller. There are plug and play options for it and very easy to install in the same location as the factory controller. Several members on here have upgraded to this including myself and it really is a night and day difference. Congrats on the new truck!

Tow package comes as standard for any 5.7 L for 2.5 gen, 2014-2021. That being said, I’ve owned both cab styles and prefer Crewmax, I haul people more than gear. Both are awesome, but just depends on what you use it for. Crawl under rig and check that the front skid plate is attached. It’ll tell you a world of info the condition and life it’s lived. Also, I don’t care what anyone at Toyota says, 5 k oil changes!

I was mistaken, I have a Tekonsha Primus IQ which is fairly basic but proportional. I don't tow very often or very heavy (4000lbs trailer and sxs combined) so I'll give the factory controller a shot before doing anything else. I bookmarked your thread though.

Malouf Ford in North Brunswick, NJ had it.

I ended up taking the day off yesterday so I could run 35 minutes (in the opposite direction of the dealer) to the credit union to get the check to buy the truck then drive 2 hours to where the dealer is. It's only got around 22000 miles on it and is very clean in and out. I'm going to start socking away a little bit each paycheck and when I've got enough saved I'd like to do a set of bronze FN BFD's and bigger tires along with a 2" lift with 5100's and a rear Icon add a leaf set up. I basically put the same style wheels and lift on my Tacoma and really liked it. For now I've got some LED bulbs, speakers, and a 30" Rigid light bar I pulled off my Taco before trading it in that'll fit this truck so I can get to modding without really laying out any cash. Looking forward to learning a lot about these trucks and hope to have this one for a long time, it was a pleasure to drive on my way home from the dealer and on my ride to work this morning. I really liked the Taco but it was a chore towing even a small trailer with a 4x4 quad with it. I was not looking forward to trying to pull the SXS 10 hours to WV with it next month, just pulling the quad there was exhausting with that truck. This was my Tacoma I traded in.

It's funny cause I'm not a red guy but this is my second red truck. My first was a 96 extended cab 4x4 5 speed 2500 Cummins Ram back in 2002 which also was really low mileage when I got it and probably my favorite vehicle owned. I've seen some pics of Barcelona trucks with bronze wheels and that combo is gorgeous IMO.

Barcelona and bronze will do. Lots of bronze options out there if you want to save a few bucks on the cost of the fn wheels.

I also put 5100's on mine (on the second clip) which should be just shy of 2". It settled to 1.6" lift.

I'm not opposed to saving a few bucks but I can't find any other TE37 style wheels for these trucks. The ones on my Taco where 9SIX9's and they did the job fine. If there's something similar for less money I'd love to see them.

I had vision wheels on my first gen tundra. $172 a wheel. I don't wheel but do travel a lot of forrest roads and can attest to the durability and 200k milage I got out of them before I sold that truck. For me, they were the best low cost wheel I've ever owned. And abused.

    Other options include:
    https://www.customwheeloffset.com/b...Q_ONMjQGuHjn8u0zOyK2r-bW1j9mw1LoaAt3DEALw_wcB
the 9six9 wheels are around $197 a wheel

    https://www.customwheeloffset.com/b...2JpBP-SQPXiwlD2oelPRFtJ8jvB8wh5caAsnuEALw_wcB
never heard of this brand but still only $227 a wheel

    https://www.fnwheels.com/store/product/bfd/
the fn bfd wheels are around $337 a wheel.

I had 9SIX9's on my Taco, unfortunately those and the Motegi's are 6 lug only and those two are the look I want. I almost bought those Visions for my Taco, they're a decent wheel. It sounds like I use my trucks in a similar fashion to you. No hardcore wheeling but I'll hit the seasonal roads up north sometimes.

I guess I didn't click through all the settings to ensure they fit. I thought I had the settings on my search already on to sort out wheels the bolt pattern but I must've missed something.
    https://www.customwheeloffset.com/b...+rubbing+or+scrubbing&suspension=Leveling+Kit

Looks like these fit, but not much savings over the fn's you want.

Congrats on the new truck. Sounds like the 2019 SR5 TRD I found a couple months ago as far as equipment goes, LEDs,cruise radar, trailer break control,et
First thing I did was fluid film the undercarriage then parked it for a month and drove my gen1 that had studded snows still on it. Dealer put new tires on mine as it was a CPO, only 3300 miles but original 6 year old tires.
Adding mods now as I get to “know” her:)

You're going to love it. The extra power and space is great. The Tundra feels like a rocket compared to the Tacoma, and it handles much better than any other full size pickup available (my opinion).
