Tow/recovery guy and I tried getting in to no avail - he flipped the lock while I tried quickly to open the door before it re-locked itself. Couldn’t do it.

is my next step contacting a local dealer with VIN and proof of ownership?

is that cheaper than a traditional locksmith?

    thanks all

Why do I feel like we're helping you steal your neighbor's car for shenanigans? :monocle:

Can he hook the trunk release, then fold the seats down to crawl in?

Hook the door handle to open from inside?

Dealership or locksmith should both be able to provide a quote over the phone.

Isn’t it only the drivers that auto-relocks? Did you try the passenger if so?

Nope, would they do it for a fee? Would it be cheaper than other avenues?

I literally have the title in my name to show the Lexus dealer, it’s my commuter car…..

Why did your response set a negative tone for the thread? It’s a valid question I’m asking.

I didn’t feel any negative energy, just some playful joking to take the edge off of a stressful situation. He even offered some good potential solutions.

oh I read too quickly perhaps or made false connections between his response and the police comment further down. My apologies

The dealership could cut a non chip key to just get the door open for what I hope would be a reasonable price.

He was just being sarcastic. He actually provided some great advice by trying to get in through the trunk.

If you have the coin, get a second chipped key made now. Don't waste money on the non chipped version. Sooner or later you'll likely be glad to have a spare. Good luck!

I work in sports medicine; locked my keys in my car once. Transportation office on campus dispatched someone to help me get my car unlocked. They placed a “bladder” in between the door frame and pillar of the the driver side door. Pumped it up and separated the two. Enough to get a piece of wood to hit the unlock button. Got me thinking, I always have a BP cuff on me now…..for personal and professional reasons

We had this Corolla of a similar vintage. It would somehow end up locked with the keys in it. We broke into it many ways. The easiest was taking the door we used the least. Wedging it open…then taking a fishing pole or we had this 8’ piece of flat steel that was 1” wide and hitting a door unlock button.
