Thinking about purchasing my first Tundra and wanted to get some insight if the additional cost of the TRD off-road is worth it. There are very few Limited TRD OR near me and a bunch of regular 4x4 limiteds for a lot cheaper. I do like the look of the TRD OR package on the limited but my main reason for wanting to get it is the suspension upgrade (Bilstein) vs the standard suspension. I do not off-road very much (switching from a Jeep Wrangler that has worked flawlessly whenever i did need to go into 4x4) but i don't know how much of a difference the upgrade makes. Thoughts?

    Here. There. Everywhere.
    Vehicle:
2021 SR5 TRD Off Road - Cavalry Blue
    Bilstein 5100s
Main benefits of the OR package are:
    • Better CV axles
    • More 4WD drive modes (MTS) + CRAWL control
    • Rear locker
The Bilsteins…are just meh. A very slight upgrade from the factory Monroe-level shocks.

You said you don’t off road much…then the 3 bullets above probably won’t matter much to you.

Outside of off roading, if you plan on doing any serious lift (not spacers) then you’ll have to upgrade your front CV axles from the black axles that come on the base 4WD models to either the red or the silver ones for the higher angles.

No off roading or lifting in your future? Then you’re totally fine with the base 4WD. Save your money and enjoy your new truck.

Hope this helps! Welcome to the forum!

Welcome to the forum. I was in a similar place as you before I bought my 22 Limited CM 4x4. I preferred the look of the TRD OR package. I did not buy the TRD OR package but picked up a set of the TRD OR wheels from this forum, put the TRD OR fender flares on it and blacked out most of the Limited chrome. Now it looks like it has the TRD OR package. It was an easy upgrade. I did make sure mine had the Panoramic View Monitor package because I wanted all the same cameras the TRD OR package has. I would love to have the rear locker for wet and snowy roads but it only works in 4L so I knew I’d never be able to use it in daily driving conditions. As for off roading, the standard 4x4 will take you anywhere you want to go. It has everything the 2nd gen Tundra had and guys haven taken those trucks on all kinds of trails all over this country. Good luck with your search.
