I recently replaced the tailgate handle, and lock assembly my Sequioa now opens smoothly!! However I can not figure out why I can not lock my tailgates if anyone could please help me figure out what I’m overlooking. I am about to move onto an apartment complex and I’m worried of tools and other stuff being stolen.

Have you tried to lock it with the key? Pop off the plastic inside cover & check the electrical connections, might be a seperate fuse, too.

When you installed the handle, was the new handle in the LOCKED or UNLOCKED position when installed? There's a locking lever on the damn thing. I've seen people install it in locked position so it's always locked, there's threads here on it, so I'm assuming you can do the reverse.

Or it could be you bought aftermarket garbage on fleaBay or scAmazon, and ... this is what happens when you buy shit parts from shit vendors

See this thread. Yes, it's tailgate handle. But I suspect yours works identical for the liftgate. If not, lemme know!

Also if not that, make sure that arm is actually attached to the lock bro!:

Either way, loop back and let us know @mrinsured

I’m starting to think I need a new actuator, I one for 30$ and another for 100$ i am tempted to get the 30$ one but I am worried it will go out quickly.

I just replaced my tailgate latch and kept the same lock yesterday. The previous one was a cheap $10 one from Amazon that triggered the lock and caused it to get caught up because of cheap plastic levers used. I replaced it with this Genuine Toyota Parts 69090-0C010 Rear Gate Handle https://www.amazon.com/dp/B005VWR46A . Along with greasing the inside bars and i can now open it up easily and smoothly. Definitely worth the investment.
