Hey Everyone new to the forum. I just bought a used 2018 Tundra SR5 Crewmax TRD this week and first thing I wanna do it add a leveling kit. Anyone with experience on them? I'm gonna do it myself so any tips or tricks will help. 2.5 or 3? Don't plan on adding to rear just front.

    Thanks!

Welcome! Been kicking around this idea for my '16 too, except I might go +1" in the rear. Still haven't decided.

Also, do a quick search, TONS of posts about lift/level

2.5-3” will put the nose way high. I just did 6112s at #2, (1.3”) and I am right at level.

All you need though are 5100s. I went 6112s because I could get them but they are way overkill for the street in my opinion. I dont off road hardly at all…kind of silly to add 6112s and 33” AT IIIs based on how I use my truck but I did it anyway.

It looks great but beyond the looks it is all downhill…braking, ride comfort, acceleration, gas mileage, handling etc all took a hit on the street.

On my first road trip now and will hand calc the mileage when I fill up this morning to see where it is at.

OP I know you are looking for a 2” to 3” but like others said that would make you nose high. Another alternative is a small strut spacer (1/4 to 1/2 thick) that will give you 1/2 to 1 inch of lift. It allows you to retain the factory ride which I feel is hands down the best of any Toyota I have ever driven or owned and you wont have to touch the rear. It does not seem like a lot but in person it looks great. I’ve done it with multiple trucks and photos do not do it ANY justice.

That is what I did. Did not want to mess with the rears as I have my hitch for the tt set up nicely.

5100s top setting up front (nothing in the rear) gives just the slightest Cali rake. Love it!

Edit: although I did have to fight the alignment to get it correct. Lifetime alignment from pep boys should have never been sold to me lol

    Welcome from Oregon!

I am very happy with my set up, very similar to many many others- Bilstein 5100’s up front set to the middle position and 33” Cooper tires.

The 5100’s level the truck perfectly, and the larger tires give you another little added boost.

This combo is ideal (I think) for commuting, light offroad use, and ice/snow/rain.

Read more about the spacers before you decide. I read several guys’ experiences about. The spacers failing, and the 5100’s are a very affordable upgrade that eliminates that risk entirely.

    Good luck!

I respect your opinion about spacers but the small spacers for a 1/2 to 1 inch of lift aren’t risky. I ran them in two different Toyota’s for well of 60k miles. And I never had a problem with shocks breaking or alignments. They were my commuting trucks and I drove them hard. I would bottom out almost daily and have scraped the bottom going over potholes.

Bilstein are great but I find them to be too stiff for a DD application. Truthfully Eibach Makes a much more comfortable shock for DDing that will achieve the same goal. I prefer the smaller spacers because it retains the factory ride.

5100's and the Eibach lift spring on the lowest setting. Gives you 2.5 inch lift for a slight rake and will ride better than pre loaded springs, if that matters.

Sorry buddy I haven't came back to this post in some time. I went with the Bilstein 5100 top setting in the front with stock rear. I took the overlanding route so I'm going to start looking at add a leaf kits and 5160s in the rear and the 6112s in the front. seems like its gonna be a good set up. I love the 5100s though, rides clean I don't have any issues! Defently recommended

Raise the front and the rear. Level I found looks great and fails to perform if stock in the rear. Get the front where you want it and then go 1.5" inches or so higher in the back depending on your use. Everyone who has a suspension travel problem I hear, bottoms out the rear.

Just a quick update yall, I ended up getting the icon rear expansion kit, and the bilstein 5160's for the rear. Love the set up. truck runs so smooth now. A little rake in the rear which im happy with because im gonna end up building a drawer system for the back.
