    Good morning!
I have a 2016 Platinum Crewmax with 2021 Toyota LED headlights retrofitted. I purchased the adapter harness from Headlight Revolution and the headlights from Sparks.

I noticed on the way to work this morning (1 hour commute) that something on the lights seemed to be bouncing or flickering.

When i arrived at work i shut the truck down. 15 minutes later i had a co-worker look at the light while i cycled through auto, on, off etc. Everything seemed to be fine. However, after about 5 minutes, the LED strips (daytime running lights) surrounding the headlight on the driver's side started to flicker and then turned off. Within a minute, the same thing happened to the passenger light.

When i turned the lights off, the daytime running LEDs strips came on and functioned as normal. When i turned the headlights back on the LED surround lights remained off.

Really not sure what is going on here. Any help is appreciated!

Sorry to see you’re having problems, I have no idea what the issue may be other than possibly a bad/loose connection somewhere in your wiring harness. Oh, if the self-appointed thread cop chimes in and tells you to move this thread to the appropriate forum just ignore him. Everyone else does.

I was thinking the wiring harness as well but it's happening to both lights. Has anyone had issues with these aftermarket retrofit harnesses?

Have you reached out to @Headlight Revolution to see if they have any ideas? Have you gone back over your install to make sure all connections are still solid? Are you having any other electrical issues? How old is your battery?

Did you have Halogen with Turn Signal/Parking light DRLs before you swapped headlights? Or did your halogen headlights have an LED strip on the bottom? If you had the parking light DRL housings, you should have a DRL fuse tap that is included with the harness. Check the connections on this as well as the fusetap itself to make sure it's properly seated and the fuse is intact.

If you did not need the DRL harness, it sounds like an issue in the connector, almost pin related.

My truck had the LED strip at the bottom. Have y'all had similar issues with other customers? Is is plausible that both connectors could be having the issue at the same time?

Did you have to tap the fuse?

I'd say start with re-checking your harness connections at this point, looking for any possible water issues while you're at it. It's possible both clips came loose or something.

That's what puzzles me is it should only be one or the other if it's a harness issue. We rarely see issues with these housings, if ever so I'm scratching my head on this one. From the sounds of it, it sounds like something internal with the headlights themselves because our harnesses wouldn't have anything to do with the DRL itself. When you turn your headlights on, the DRLs are supposed to dim 50%. It almost sounds like they are having troubles doing so due to power.|

The other thing it could be as well is your battery. I have seen issues in the past like this that turned out to be a bad battery, so it's worth checking.

Thanks for following up via this thread and email as well. Below is an update on troubleshooting.

    • I removed and cleaned the 7.5 amp DRL fuse. There didnt seem to be any issues with it.
    • I put a multi-meter on my battery without starting the truck. It read 12.15V. I started the truck and let it idle for 30 minutes taking reading every few minutes. The battery voltage jumped up to 13.86V and then slowly went down to 13.25V after 25 minutes at idle.
    • The DRLs seemed to work fine the entire time the truck was running. I cycled them on and off maybe a dozen times and could not reproduce yesterday's issues.
    • I did however notice that the DRLs did not dim to 50% when the headlights turned on. They stayed at the brightest level regardless of what the headlights were doing. See picture below.

I think there's a setting in Entune to change the DRL dimming (I don't have my stock HU anymore so couldn't tell you where to find that) so maybe check to see if that is set one way or another.

Without the engine running, a fully charged 12V battery is 12.6V. Your battery is undercharged. I am surprised the truck is starting. I would keep an eye on it.

Since your truck came equipped with LED DRL, it will have a LED DRL relay. It is located in the junction box under the hood on the driver side. If the flickering activity was synchronized on both headlights, and now the DRL stay at 100% brightness all the time, I would suspect the LED DRL relay has gone bad.
