Is there an option to have the audible beep when you signal to change lanes and there is a car being detected on the side of the Tundra. Most cars have that feature. My sales guy told me it didn't have that feature.

Not on Toyota. It just turns on an orange light on the mirror(and blinks).

Yep no dice. I looked into this when I first got my truck and it just has the flashing light on the side mirrors. No audible signal when you put on your turn signal and someone is in your blind spot. I guess Toyota hopes you’ll actually check your mirror when you go to change lanes….

Hopes? No one but you is liable for failing to yield to someone else in their lane. I still look over my shoulder every time, even when in a vehicle with BSM. I’ve been driving for 25 years, and it’s just habit at this point. Also, my wife’s BSM on her Yukon often freezes. Sucks if you rely heavily on it.

Thank you sir. You saved me much time by not having to refer to the owners manual. :)

I think it just makes the light in the mirror blink faster, as to grab your attention. That’s what mine does when I’m turning with my blinker on and someone is also in the turn lane next to me. No beeps though.

If you fail to look over and the mirror is blinking, you may experience a different type of beep.

I've had this feature on my last couple vehicles as well. Of course, I physically look but I do miss the beep.

That brings up something I think about from time to time. Do I love backup cameras? Yes. Lining up hitches is a lot easier. Safety is great but is it a good idea to have cars perform things that you’d need to do without them? Features are nice but they should never substitute good driving skills.

Yeah hopes, as in they hope you'll be a decent driver and check your mirrors and turn to look as you are supposed to.

It seemed like you were using the word hopes to imply Toyota could have done more to make sure you don’t cause any accidents. But it’s not their responsibility, and they are not liable in any way. I agree you are supposed to physically turn your head and look before merging into someone else’s lane every time, regardless of BSM.

I’m glad it doesn’t beep. My truck already beeps at me far more than I would like. That reminds me, I should borrow a techstream and turn a bunch of that off.
