Knock sensor make me crazy

    We purchase the wiring harness and from what I understand the plugs should be two black and 2 gray, all of our are gray. So how do I know which one goes where? Can anyone help?

    So you have two knock sensors on each side of the motor. The plug is at the rear.
    It really shouldn’t matter which sensor goes where as they interchange. The harness
    should really lay out in a intuitive pattern. Does this help?

    ^^ I'd like to think that is true, but it's dependent on how the ECM is programmed... Lets say Bank 1 is detonating but lead is bank connected to bank 2. It could feasibly add fuel and/or continuously pull back ignition timing. We really don't have enough information, but I'd continue to research pictures and service information to connect it properly.

    Which begs the question, if you are doing a repair, you will see the position of the old one. So, put it back the way you found it.

    I did my own harness replacement. It really wasn’t that tough. Wires were destroyed by rats. But I put each sensor back where I got it and the wiring harness was new Toyota from Amazon for $19. It went where it was supposed to go. No brainer at the time.

    We have same motor. Year. 2010. I found part number for harmess on old one. Sensors are identical so someone actually told me to move them around to identify possible sensor error. But mine were not damaged so I cleaned them and put them back. But don’t use some generic wire harness. Get the proper Toyota one. They are stupid cheap and that’s the best way to ensure it’s proper
