I've heard of them...I thought it was a rumor

    Not liking it

If their that desperate I'll buy the the gas and a free lunch.
In the meantime I need to break out my key every time I get gas.

Need a bypass mod without changing the door....is it possible?

Can you leave it unlocked? If its one of those locks that holds the key captive then I would replace the door or cut it off and live with the hole.

Leave it unlocked and put a rare earth magnet next to the stop to keep it closed.

Someone here just did a 27 Rivet Lockless Fuel Door. I’d do 32 Rivets as if I was doing that.

When the early trucks were made it was common for thieves to siphon gas. Hence the locking gas door.

If you want OEM you could find a 2004(?) to 2006 Access cab gas door at a junkyard, and swap it out. Probably need to change the latch mechanism too.

Two bolts for the door. Unsure on latch mechanism.

Personally, I prefer the locking gas door. It reminds me to shut the truck off before/while filling. I read somewheres that filling with the truck running is bad for the fuel pump as the system is "open." Changes the pressures, and vacuum, etc....

Not sure how true any of that is, but it made sense to me way back when. Now it's just a habit.

This is all just my two cents, anyways. You do you.

I didn’t hear about that being prevalent on the news back at that time. I was thinking it was more along the lines of these trucks being produced in Indiana and the hate towards everything non-domestic in the midwest was the reason…again vandalism. Don’t know though really, just speculation. I have a friend from Joliet, IL and he told me about it (the haters).

I was told it was because it was either common when they were made, or common in the 90's which leached over into the early 00's. I don't know 100% either.

I guess by now its a "He said. She said" kinda thang.

The keyed fuel door was a carry over from the T100, and I think 2002 Tundra trucks were the last to have one.

    You kidding right?
So the manufacture is spending millions adjusting the fuel door on all trucks shipped to every dealer in every corner of the country because you think someone in Indiana is siphoning gas from the trucks at the plant.... because they hate imports

This is the adult forum right?

Mine actually preferred to key "ASSHOLE" into the side of my truck. I think I'd prefer that over messing with my fuel.

A keyed door isn't much different than a door that only opens with an inside lever or button. Don't most new vehicles still have gas doors that only open once you pull or push a button? Our 2012 Rav4 has a little lever you pull on the driver floorboard. Seems like the purpose is the same, security.

If it bothers you, do what Noah said and swap it out for an 03-06 gas door.
