I’ve read through a bunch of forums looking for a similar problem but I can’t find anyone in the same situation. Recently bought a 2007 double cab 5.7. The key fob works fine and the actual key will lock all the doors (turn counterclockwise). It will however not unlock the doors (turn clockwise). The same thing with the spare key. I tried shooting some graphite but got nothing. I like to keep the spare hidden under the truck in case of accidentally locking the keys in the car or misplacing them. Doesn’t do much good if I can’t unlock the truck. Any help or ideas would be appreciated!

For anyone with a similar issue. It look about 10 rounds of wd40 and gently working the key back and forth over two days. I’ll make sure to add a quick squirt to the tailgate and door locks every time I change the oil to prevent it from sticking. The tailgate actually freed up pretty quick but the door was much more stubborn. Definitely try this before assuming the key is worn out.

There is also a stupid security interlock to be aware of that can be a real pain, where the keys are actually disabled by the security system. I had an issue with it on mine and had to get my running truck unlocked by roadside assistance, because my spare fob and key wouldn't work with the main fob and key in the ignition. (My dog managed to step on the lock button when I left him in the truck with the AC on, I had loaded him up at the house, and run inside to grab something...) It's an idiotic feature, that I guess you can disable with Techstream, but I haven't gotten around to hooking mine up yet. Just an FYI.

I recommend graphite or silicone spray… wd40 will collect dust.

Also consider having a new key made. I had trouble with the tailgate lock. Same issue, could lock but not unlock. My locksmith looked at the lock tumbler and determined nothing was wrong. He stated that this issue is common with Toyota keys as they wear out.

He was actually good enough at cutting keys that he took my worn down key and made a new one based on what he thought it would look like when new. No more issues since replacing the key!
