Just curious, does only the 4x4 models have AIP issues?

    I’ve heard that only second generation 4x4 Tundras get the AIP issues and not the 2wd drive models. Is this true? By the way, I had to get my air pumps/valve set replaced twice and I’m not looking forward to having it replaced a third time out of pocket. I’ve been good for almost two years now (hope it stays that way although I know it will fail again at some point)

    Just get the block off plate system and disable it. The only "downside" is potentially more emissions in the first minute or two after startup. Its much cheaper, and I believe it should be a permanent fix, no repeats. $400, and so far no issues for me after 30k plus miles.

    I recommend the Hewitt bypass kit. If you keep it the way it is, you’ll just be replacing the AIP system every few years for $2,000+. Depending on where you live, it will be prone to failure due to moisture or water getting in the system.

    The air injection system is for emissions control and unrelated to to the 4 wheel drive system.

    It is my understanding that ALL Tundras sold in the US (and perhaps elsewhere) have an air injection system to lower emissions at startup before the catylic converters have warmed up enough to do their job.

    As others have said. Sounds like your truck is a good candidate for a bypass kit, and just be done with it.
