Would you buy this for a frame swap? Can’t go see it in person.

Is that surface rust or dirt on it?

Looks like dust to me but won’t know for sure until I speak more with the yard. It’s from northwest Washington/Montana area.

Hard to say. Would be better to know why it was totalled and if it was just the body and didn’t impact the frame. You might be okay. At least they suspended it instead of letting it sit on the ground in bad weather.

Personally I’d be more inclined to buy a rollover from the south which is more likely to total out from roof over frame damage.

After you get the frame, ship me the wheels.

I'm joking of course, but those do look like nice wheels.

I'm not an expert, but the frame looks good to me. Best of luck with your frame search!

Montana, I heard, up until the last few years, did not use any kind of salt on the roads in winter. I think most of Washington state is sort of a "high desert." Could be GTG. (Good to Go).

I'm betting that the frame is still straight. Looks like 95% of the impact is above the frame rails.

Does this mean you're getting the frame shipped to you?

You’d need to check for perforations and cracks at the upturns and also confirm if it was 4WD.

Frame could be sandblasted and recoated, or better yet dipped and zinc’d if you have someone nearby to do it.

The two things that popped out for me are this heavily bent fastener in the radiator support that has pulled up and back on the frame (and you can see it’s at the same angle bend inside the tube there), and one of the front crossmember mount points for the engine (I think?) mount looks wallered out or stripped to shit, but it may just be illusions. I’m on mobile with a plus-sized phone which doesn’t compare to the 26” screens I use at my desk.

That’s what I’m looking into. Was just told by a shop that repairs rusted frames as their main business that they wouldn’t touch mine because there’s previous repairs with plates welded in. Basically said it was toast. To my surprise I got a quote (from a different shop) for a frame swap for $3500 - $4500 so here we are.

Good eye, thanks shifty. Donor truck is an exact match for year and all non numbers in my vin. 4x4 and same specs. Also, whether I end up getting repaired at a fab shop or doing a frame swap, I am already scheduled for all rust to get scraped and undercoated with woolwax. Only way to make all this worth it lol.

Ideally you'd find a good frame for sale from a private party on craig's or faceplace. There stands a MUCH better chance of getting a good frame that still has most if not all the suspension bits and pieces included with...at least here on the rust free west coast.

Thanks for this tip, found a couple options already that present way less of a headache for about the same amount of money.

That looks like a front body mount for the engine bay area. Seems to match the size of the ones I have left over from my energy suspension mounts.
