    OK,

July we are going to take a road trip on the way up wanna see the Smokey mountains then to Boston and on the way back stop in Fairfield, CT and see my Sister, then down the East cost and home!

It will be the Wifey, daughter, her boyfriend and I! They want to take the daughter's 2019 RAV4 but her boyfriend and I want to represent Texas and the Tundras.com and take the Tundra!

I know better gas in the RAV4 but seems more space in the Tundra!

    Anyway what do ya think!

I’d vote Tundra too. Way more comfortable for 4 adults in the tundra. Make the BF pay for gas

Your CrewMax would be like a limo ride vs the RAV4.

On the other hand, do you have a tonneau cover, shell, etc to secure your belongings when stopping places, or to keep them out of the weather?

Might be something to think about.

PS I like the Aardvark in your avatar!

    @Taco-Bender

That's exactly what I was thinking, maybe a Extang 2.0 or the other good one BakFlip MX4!

Thanks for the Aardvark, I have'nt heard that name for the F-111 since I had to help Hump them at RAF Lakenheath where I was stationed back in 1980-1982! I was an LE then and we had to augment the SP's, those were are classifications back then! Anyway that aircraft was amazing but nit when the kicked the afterburners on when taking off, our Barracks was at the end of the runway depending on the weather! When the took off it would shake our pictures on the walls in the dorm!

I drove from Dallas to South Carolina and then onto Maine last May, tundra with bakflip MX4.
I was very comfortable on the trip. So much room in the truck for everything and everything safe, dry and secure in the bed. I say take the tundra, pay extra for the gas, and for the comfort of the extra room.

Sounds great, Tundra sounds right! I may get the MX4! Your trip sounds close to my route!

I’m thinking 2-3 days to Boston!

    Thanks

Definitely this above... If u have tonneau cover! I have extang as mentioned as it's almost waterproof, but not quite.

Buy some plastic tubs from HD or Lowe's (aka: redneck suitcases) for packing, and you're bulletproof. :fenforcer:

Stop in Asheville, NC for some good beer and people watching if you have time.

I voted Rav4, but only because I wouldn't take the Tundra without a bed cover or cap. On a trip like that you're going to want lockable, dry, protection for luggage and anything else you might be carrying.

I've been all over the area you're travelling through and up/down the east coast too many times. Avoid NJ, Philly, DC, and Baltimore at all costs (unless you really want to see them). The traffic in those areas will ruin your day, an accident or construction can double or triple your estimated time.

After you leave the TN/NC area head up 81 through PA and then take 84 through CT into MA.
After you leave Fairfield head down towards NY, take 287 to 78 towards Harrisburg PA. From there I would normally go to 81 and head south.
But if you insist on seeing the coast, take 95 down through Philly, cross the Delaware Memorial bridge and then hop on 13 south through Delaware. This will take you to the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel. After you cross that, your possibilities are endless. You'll be back near the NC border, head down the Outer Banks, or head inland a little ways.

I worked at McClellan from '81-'96. They did the depot level maintenance on the A-10's and the F-111's there. Saw them everyday stripped down to their skivvies. Pretty aircraft.

Also, if you haven't done it yet, do the DIY Pop n Lock tailgate mod. One of the best mods ever.

Have a great trip and be safe!

We took a road trip up the coast of California from Palm Springs. Threw the bikes in the back, packed a Yeti full of beer and stayed in random hotels along the way, never made a reservation more than a day in advance. The Tundra was so much fun, and so roomy. Having the back window to roll down was the best part, it was like living one of those car commercials you see! Tundra all day baby! I will tell you, it did REALLY help having the 38 gallon gas tank though.
