Ethanol free gas is the better choice for all gas motors.

Pump gas nowadays has only a 2 week shelf life before it starts breaking down due to the ethanol in it. This is why it's no good after it's been stored unless you use an additive like StarTron. In the case of your Tundra, if it has over 100k mi I would use a higher octane to keep the valves from clattering. I run the highest octane possible at all times because I'm supercharged. I run mid-grade in the wife's 4 runner and never had a problem. It also helps to run a top tier gas from places like Exxon, Chevron or Shell because they have additives to keep their fuel clean. It's like if you ate at McDonalds every meal every day. Sure it would sustain life but you sure wouldn't feel your best and after a it would cause massive problems.

If pump gas started to break down in 2 weeks without an additive, why have I not had a single issue with my boat (new in 05') that is stored for months at a time?

I talked to a coworker when I was in Yuma. I'll try to get ahold of him and find out his mixture.

He was mixing E85 and 91 in his 2003 Tacoma and getting great results.
He said he tried it in his wife 06 Sequia but (all the lights came on) on the dash. Once he ran it through and put regular gas in it the Sequia was fine.

So I'm wondering if putting a Gal or two of E85 in and then fill up with 91 would be ok?

I would trust a manufacturer manual over what google says. For the most part it says for Toyota V8s 87 or higher.

Need more info. Is the pump at the dock? Typically those are ethanol free for marine use. Is your engine 2 or 4 stroke? Typically 2 strokes have smaller carb jets that get clogged with enzymes when stored but a 4 stroke usually has bigger carb jets. Do you use any additives like Sta-Bil or StarTron in your fuel, especially before you store your boat? I'm not gonna get into a pissing contest with you, I'm just going off personal experience with small engines and fuel analysis from a coworker here at Shell.

I don't know, but consider yourself lucky. I can confirm because I have personally seen phase separation in ethanol blend fuel that was left to sit in my boat's gas tank. It caused all sorts of problems and was very expensive to get cleaned up. Just go to a small engine repair shop - the type that services lawn mowers and weed eaters, and ask them about ethanol fuel. Well, they may actually give it a glowing recommendation because it's keeping most of them in business.

I drink, and sometimes the dog, but never the trk. The motor gets nasty and doesn't get good mpg when it's all tanked up on the stuff. :drunk:

    Ethanol
fuel is ethyl alcohol, the same type of alcohol found in alcoholic beverages, used as fuel. It's a water sponge; Ethanol gasoline will absorb water and can absorb 50 times more water than conventional non-alcohol gasoline. Phase separation occurs in E10 gas. So says Google.

Not marina gas, mostly from a chevron 'in town', fuel injected 4 stroke, never any additives. Never any issues. Boat gets stored with whatever amount of fuel that was left that trip, usually less than 1/4 tank.

Because you're not a wacko. I'm.....a certain kind of person.....who among other things stores large amounts of gasoline....I rotate it out after a year. I could keep it for 2-3 years if I wanted to put gas preservative in it until I need to do that, I just use a yearly rotation. No problems, and yeah its 87, with ethanol.

Outboard, yamaha 115, performance has not changed thru life of engine via tach and gps mph thruout its life. Modern fuel is pretty good at storage.

I ran Maverik 87 ethanol free for 5-6 tanks when I first got my truck, and noticed it had less power than the ethanol stuff. If you have a FFV, just run 87 regular and save some dough. Or get a diesel.

My truck was parked when we pcsed to Hawaii we put fuel stabilizer in and disconnected the battery and when we got back to it 4 years later minus a wasp infestation and flat tires it started right up.

Stick with 87 as its what the engine was designed to run. The knock sensors and ECU adjust to correct slight problems. If they do not adjust your problem, then you have another problem like bad maintenance or worn parts.
