I've been cheating on my Pro and flirting with the Ford Raptor lately

Since sales have slowed down due the covid-19 pandemic, I've been keeping an eye on the Raptor pricing. I'm not a fan of Ford, but I do like that particular truck. I love the reliability of my Tundra, but the lack of bells and whistles are starting to wear on me. However if Ford offers the 0% for 84 months financing on that truck, I may jump the fence.

The only other option I'm considering is waiting to see what the new Gen TRD Pro will offer. My fear is by the time Toyota breaks out the new gen PRO, the sales drought will be over and everyone will be asking top dollars w/o special financing.

My question is do you guys think Toyota will eventually offer special financing on the 2020 TRD Pro series?

I don't think Toyota has ever offered incentives on any pro models as far as I know

Shame on you for thinking of going to a Ford. Just bc you like the body style or options doesn't mean they work. Ask any of the previous owners. Maybe the 0% is so that you can save money for repair parts....not mods. :stirthepot:

lol I agree, I keep going back and forward on this. I've been reading about issues on the Raptor forum, but that can be due to them having more trucks on the road.

I like the Raptors too.... although I’m partial to the old 6.2L vs the new blown 3.5. But 0% at 84 months keeps you upside down on that loan almost until it’s paid off. Here’s just one cut and paste from a Raptor forum... consider that depreciation curve before you take out an 84 month loan. I’d say the same thing about a Tundra Pro at 84 months... you’ll be driving that truck for 7 years or paying out of pocket to get out from under it.

“I have a 2017 ford raptor that I purchased in February. When I bought the truck it had 8000 miles on it. It was and is in very good condition. Black exterior. The msrp on the truck was $ 69,000.00 , it has every option you could get at the time. I paid $ 65,000.00 for it in February. That's the best I could do to avoid paying $ 5000.00 over msrp for a brand new one. And I searched a lot to find one within driving distance so I could drive it and see it first. I love the truck, but I am surprised at how much they are depreciating in the last 6 months, specifically gen. 2 raptors. If I had waited five to six months I could have saved almost $ 10,000.00.

right now I am seeing 2017 raptors with low miles for around $ 58,000.00 plus or minus, which means dealers probably paid somebody around $ 53,000.00 as a trade in or at a auction. Considering most people paid sticker or above in 2017, owners who traded in 2017 raptors are taking roughly a 20 percent hit or around $ 15,000.00 in one vehicle year. That really surprises me considering how well they were retaining their value thru 2017 , New and used.”

You can take your 2019 TRD Pro, put $12k-$15k in it (supercharger & long travel suspension) and have a more powerful and capable truck than a Raptor with Toyota reliability. Just a thought.

All vehicles are depreciating assets. Buy what you like, want, and can afford.

Agree, Financing any vehicle that long is not a good idea. At least paying on it that long or close to it.

My sister has a 2011 or 2012, forget which. My buddy has a 2018. Sister still has hers and loves it. She did have a major transmission issue. My buddy is thinking of getting rid of it as it is a terrible everyday truck. Fun in the desert, but otherwise....

Interesting, the last Ford I owned (many years ago) the trany went out around 70k. I'm assuming they got it right by now.

No financing specials but you can get them under MSRP. My credit union is financing under 3% which is pretty good.

SC is over 7k alone and LT suspension over 15k, add in fiberglass fenders and he would be $25k into that project.

They have been building cars for more than 100 years. If they did not have it figured out 'many years ago' which is probably only a fraction of the 100 years, then chances are they still don't have it figured out today. Or in the near future.

If Ford offers incentives on Raptors then we will know times are going to be really tough. All of their rebates, special finance terms, or private cash offers always have the disclaimers in small print that Raptors and Cobra Mustangs are excluded.

The ford transmissions on the F-150 have only been out for 2 years , they all have the new 10 speed which they engineered in cooperation with GM . So who knows if they have it all figured out now . I’m excited about the new Ram TRX with the Hellcat engine .

7 years on a car loan? No thanks. I wonder how long it will be before we have 10-15 year loans like they do on boats. You will always be upside down on that payment. Unless you plan on keeping it for a while, you will be rolling payment into your next truck loan when you do sell it.

The OP did say 0% for 84 months....

Who cares if the note is 24 months or 100 months at 0%.

My friend went through 3 motors in 36k miles on his 2019 Raptor. Ford ended up buying it back.

it spent more time in the shop than it did on the road

If you want to get into numbers, with what you said you'd be making over 100hp more and have waaaay more suspension than a Raptor and be reliable. A nice mid travel setup and a blower fit into the $15k price difference and will still outperform the Raptor. The Raptor is nice from the factory, but it's no long travel truck.

I agree if you only make the minimum monthly payments you will be upside down for a long time. You do have the option of paying it off any time between 0-84 months at 0% though. Might be nice to have the option of a smaller payment if needed for a rough month or two. Nothing is free! My neighbor looked into it and you have to pay full MSRP to get 0% with Ford. If you take 1.9% for 72 months you got most of the rebates. That is at least for now in my local market...

Exactly, I'll have the option of paying it off early interest free. I hope Toyota offer this on the Pro series
