I have had the truck (new to me ‘20 platinum) about 2 months. I LOVE it and expected to take a step backwards from a tech standpoint from my prior truck that shall not be named.

But one thing annoys the crap out of me….these controls on the steering wheel.

WHY would the volume controls be left/right instead of up/down?

    and

WHY would the prior/next song controls be up/down and not left right?

I’m gonna be getting them mixed up for the next decade I own this truck. It makes no sense!

I do get what your saying. But based on how the head unit is set up, the channels scroll vertically while volume is horizontal. So it makes sense to match your control button to what you are displaying.
But yes, it seems this is not the 'normal' orientation and it will take some getting used to. I don't even notice anymore.

Try owning a 5th gen 4Runner AND a 2.5 gen Tundra... where the control switches are similar, but do different things. WHY?!!! :annoyed:

Yes this 100% drives me freakin nuts as well  I looked into re-working the wiring on that stupid 4-way to set it up the way it should be, but was advised against it (difficulty) by a couple of folks who are much more electrically inclined than I am...

In order: Orvis dog cover for rear bench seat, OE gun safe, Husky liners front/rear, Tyger tonneau tri fold, Rough Country seat covers
    Even dumber: arrow up/down
    - CarPlay music arrow up goes to next song
    - SiriusXM built in app arrow up goes to previous station

arrow up should be consistent across apps but it’s not - in some cases it goes forward, in others it goes backwards

    That would be me. 8^0
Still figuring it out. But what gets me is Toyota overall put the delay wipers on reverse.
Subaru got it right. Toyota on top in pic.
I take the bar dashes to be visual and mean space/time between wipes.
    Toyota does not agree.

You can't change it unfortunately. The controls are a 1 piece circuit board.

The 3rd Gen steering wheel is great. All the audio control buttons are the glossy ones along the bottom. Menu control are the matte ones on the left, cruise settings are the matte ones on the right.

I went from a 2014 dc to a 2019 cm. They even changed the layout of the buttons and functions inside of the 2.5 generation lifecycle. I’ve had the 19 for a year and still push the wrong thing

Thats some first world problems right there. You get used to it.
I have to switch from my Tundra to my shitbox half ton chevy work truck and always look for the shifter, radio control, climate control, etc in the wrong spots years later still. :notsure:

Not 100% since it has been a couple years since I’ve done this, but I think you could change these around with a Maestro iDatalink module. When you flash the software you set up the steering wheel controls and I think you can change the output signals to whatever you want.

I had a 2nd gen and currently have a 2.5 gen. Between the two they reversed the phone answer and hang up and the button was in the same spot. After answering calls for 7 years I started hanging up on people all the time! Still do 3 years later!!

Your Tundra is a brand new design, apparently down to every bolt. Did they fix the wiper delay function discussed here ?

$5 you're wrong lol. If there's a market for it, it can happen. Honestly, I bet this can be made into a simple item swap, comes in black or silver! :)

Yep, it's a horrible design. There are a handful of WTF designs like that in this truck. I've had my rig for 3.5 years and still have not be able to get my brain to operate the buttons as designed without looking.

I sort of agree but it doesn't bother me. Also, the up-down motion is more natural to use for me, and that's the one I actually use a lot (jumping to the next tune or backing up). If I want to change the volume, I'm much more likely to just reach for the knob.

This is a such a small thing but annoys me to much. I’ve gotten used to it but still pisses me off every time I get in. Especially after driving something different that has normal controls

I've had steering wheel volume controls in my last 4 vehicles and still forget about them and never use them.
It's muscle memory to reach for the volume knob on the radio and I'm guessing it will stay that way at this point.

Guess I'm the only one that prefers to listen to the vehicle while driving or chat with the others in the cab. Just like to know when something don't sound right. Must be the years of heavy steel mill processing equipment operations and old automobiles with rusted out floors and no weatherstrip. There simply wasn't no amped up audio in them days for the regular Joe. Lucky to have a ride!
