Is Tundra treated as Light Duty Truck in your State/Prov?

    as per I picked up TRD Pro couple weeks ago, I was asked to pay $120 for the licensing sticker because it's not defined as light duty truck any more.

    I was too happy to pay attention to it for the early delivery.

    But yesterday I saw an identical TRD Pro in the parking, and he doesn't have the sticker on the same province license!! Neither front Nor rear.

    Then I go back and check the rule, which is kinda blurry as light-duty trucks (3,000 kg or less). But my TRD Pro's empty weight is 2700ish, which is less than 3k, and GVWR is 3200ish, which is higher.

    So any clue??

    RAS, 285/75 DTs, dual battery, SS3 Pro
    They rate it by GVWR, and the 3rd gen TRD Pro is substantially higher due to the hybrid. They bumped up the GVWR to make up for all the payload that the hybrid would eat up.

    That said, all 2nd gen and 3rd gen Tundras have a GVWR of >3000kg...

    I’m still light duty but the hybrid label costs me an additional
    $200 a year to license here to make up for gas I supposedly save.

    Here in AL we went through three iterations of how to register truck. Started with weight based to include weight of trailer and thye would wait outside stateparks with scales. Then they changed it to not include the trailer, but the rule required unladen weight, and someone defined unladen to mean no fuel, personal property, fluids, so it meant if they ever weighed you they had to do awhole lot of math so they gave up. Finally an RV owning state senator pushed through a law saying any personal use truck was plated the same as a car. So a 3500HD and a Corolla were both $34.95. That same 3500HD being used in commercial activity better have a weight based tag. Under over 8K but less than 10K would still be $35 but 10,001 jumps to $105.

    I dont recall the $$ but I know I didn't pay $120 to license mine, non hybrid and not a Pro. In Ontario as well

    Nobody buys a Tundra hybrid for the miniscule gas savings. They buy it for the additional power.

    In AR they said it was a hybrd and wanted to charge extra, thank goodness with my purple heart , my tag was free

    Ca bills trucks as commercial vehicles. Apparently payload is not considered by the money hungry dmv

    Tell the state that. I had to pay an additional $200 because “hybrids use less gas”.

    2022 prices for me ... (note annual mileage isnt really factored into non commericals)

    2018 tundra was $167 including $25 personal plate annually

    2014 4runner limited $104 including $25 personal plate annually
