Is There REALLY any difference in the Towing capacity between the Tundra 2021 and SR5? Thanks

Hey There. Looking to buy a used Tundra to pull my tiny home around. Is there much difference in the Tundra's towing capacity SR5 and plain old 2021 or older? I don't need bells & whistles, just the power. Thanks!

 

The wording of this is confusing. The SR5 is a trim level of the tundra. It’s one level up from the base SR trim. The 2021 SR5 trim got the better 5.7 engine standard for 21 which is the 381hp/401tq. It got the better engine standard for this one year to streamline production before they switched to the 3rd gen 2022 models. So yes the 2021 SR5 is as well equipped as any tundra from 2007-2021. You’ll also be happy to know that the SR5 has the digital dual climate control for the 21 year which was always a more premium option. Hope this was helpful.

 

I'm pretty sure all 2021 trims have the same engine/power output.

Your biggest concern is just making sure the numbers on your tiny home don't exceed a Tundra's payload capacity.

 

Trailer tongue weight counts towards payload.

 

And it’s not just weight in the bed. Its total weight added to the vehicle. Steel front bumper and winch counts towards payload.

 

It looks like a truck with a higher curb weight has less towing capacity. IIRC my 21 SR5 can tow up to 9,200# and has a stickered payload (without considering the port options on the yellow sticker) of 1270#. These numbers allow a 920# tongue weight and 350# left over for driver and passenger and WDH.
My guess is any less optioned truck with a lower curb weight would have a higher towing capacity.
