Just bought a 2004 Sequoia with 256K miles and no repair history. Prev owner doesn't know when T-belt was last replaced. I'm afraid to drive the truck for fear of the T-belt breaking. I've scoured the internet trying to find out if the 4.7L is an interference engine and according to what I'm seeing and reading it is not. The engine teardown video of an engine with a broken T-belt showed no engine damage. The recesses in the pistons prevented the valves from hitting them.
I also read an account os a Sequoia owner contacting Toyota and being told the 4.7 IS NOT an interference engine.
Can anyone provide photos showing valve to piston damage resulting from a broken T-belt? See the links below: Discussion starter

They state that the 4.7L V8 in my Tundra is NOT an interference engine. I had them log a case # to my question and their answer to it."

They must not be aware of all of the 4.7L 2UZ engines that met their demise from broken timing belts and bent valves. We’ve seen a variety of results from broken timing belts. It’s a low interference engine it would seem. Snap at idle? Typically comes out fine. Snap at high rpm? More likely to have damage. Just change the timing belt with the genuine Aisin kit every 9yrs or 90k miles.
