Why is replacing a water pump so expensive at the dealer? I was quoted close to $1K just to get it replaced. It’s leaking for the second time.

300 hectares on single tank of kerosene
If they are anything like the 2018 5.7 liter, it is probably all labor. It looks like surgery to replace it.

Do you have a warranty of any kind on the one you had replaced? They probably won't cover labor, but it may help.

Not too difficult. Just takes some patience and about 4 hours.

My thoughts - it’s 2022 - $1,000 for a dealership install of a new major component shouldn’t be a surprise. Some charge almost $200 for an oil change that costs $15 and takes 12 minutes.

Sounds like you’re getting 8 years out of the water pumps - while it would be nice to last longer I don’t think you can expect much more then 8-10 years out of these parts. Did you use OEM or aftermarket when you replaced the first one?

If I were you, I’d go ahead and replace the radiator, hoses, and thermostat while I’m at it and call the cooling system good for another 8-10 years.
