Is it worthwhile to change out alternator before it goes bad?

Got a 1st gen tundra, 300 k miles, most everything is OEM, including alternator. Wondering if it is worthwhile to change this out just because of how old it is, or should I keep it since it works fine.

    Thanks!

It's not like it's a hard job. And the brushes are often worn by then. But if you need to be money-conscious then no. If you want to do preventative maintenance, then go for it, but only if you're replacing with DENSO product.

I’d probably swap it with an denso, eat the core charge and keep the original as a spare, toss new brushes in it though.

Just buy the $17.50 brushes. The primary wear part. And have them ready. Or buy the brushes, pull the alternator, take it apart (3 nuts), replace the brushes, put it back in and call it good. And save yourself a crap pot of money. The whole complete alternator change and core is a huge scam rip off.
