Hey guys, made a post similar to this on TacomaWorld before I bought my used Tacoma so I figured I would hop over here and poll some experts on a Tundra...

I am currently looking at a 2005 double cab Tundra that the guy says, "needs some small mechanical work"

From asking him the issues he says it has a small oil leak (hasn't said where from), the fuel injectors on the driver side of the motor need to be replaced (not sure how he knows this) and the transmission will eventually need to be worked on. But he also said he drives it every day (which confused me if injectors NEED to be replaced) and it has new tires all around.

The ad also says it has 402,000 miles.

From the looks of the interior the leather seems to be in rather decent shape and the paint and body look good as well.

As far as the work goes I am not overly worried about replacing a transmission (did one in my Tacoma) and I also have a 95 Land Cruiser I did the oil pump cover seal and valve cover gasket on to fix an oil leak, so I have some confidence on tracking down a leak and fixing it.

I guess my main question is do yall think it would be worth driving about an hour and a half to look at or would you be concerned with the mileage and issues presented?

Oh yea, asking price is $3,000

Depends on your budget and what you want to put into it.

I would already budget it for a practically full overhaul including a replacement tranny.
Check out my thread in my SIG to see what I mean.

For me it was a toss-up for a used 2nd gen or an FGT with everything done by me and extra's.

Now I have a supercharger, LSD, practically new engine and paint is on the list, basically more than I could ever have asked and still under my original budget.

I'm VERY happy with my choice.
No dept and doing everything in stages.

Talk him down as much as you can but it'll have to be your decision in the end.
    Hope this helps.

What color? If it's black thats a deal.

    How is the frame rust?

Helps a ton. Definitely would get a ton of initial maintenance. I've already been searching for some used transmissions which can definitely be a toss up but the place I went in the past had a 4 month warranty which was reassuring.

This general idea is why I went with a first gen. I had a budget and an 02 with 152k miles was way under it. So I got to overhaul the suspension, stereo, and put on a bunch of other odds and ends. But that seems like a high price to me.

    :notsure:

If you could get it for $1,500 it might be a good buy. Like others said, just plan on a major overhaul. 400K miles is more than most vehicles ever see but these trucks can handle it.

Is it 4x4? If so, that might not be a terrible deal if it could be snatched up for $2000-$2500. Frame rust as mentioned would be a deal breaker.

Well tried to schedule a time to go look at it this weekend and the guy said he can't sell it anymore. So that's a bummer, but thanks everyone for the responses. I'll be keeping an eye out for any more now that I know I can trust them even with the high mileage!
