Is camshaft tower leaking still an issue on the ‘21’s

I’ve gone through a bunch of pages on the sticky thread on the cam shaft towers leaking, but don’t recall anyone mentioning the ‘21. Was it determined that the black gasket material is the cure to the lack of enough grey gasket sealer applied at the factory and is leaking in those areas resolved for the later 5.7’s? Thanks guys.

I have always thought that it is an issue Toyota never addressed on the 3UR-FE.

In the vast majority of cases, it doesn't even seep enough to change the reading on your dipstick between oil changes. For very few people, it seeps enough that they can smell a bit of burnt oil.

Seems I could live with a bit of seepage. Thanks.

i have 183k on the clock and it's still seeping with no noticeable oil loss, burnt oil smell, or stains on the ground.

Does ambient temperature swings have anything to do with the oil leak? Are southern trucks seeing this as well as northern?

Yes, some 2021 owners have posted the leak in the sticky.

Not gonna debate that much as I have bigger fish to fry. I'll just say brand doesn't matter nearly as much as the frequency of changes, the running duration periods, the rpms during those running cycles, and the proper operation of the PCV system. Lots of people overlook PCV system maintenance which leads to highly contaminated motor oil and premature engine wear in any vehicle.

I love Kirkland. I buy a bunch when it's on sale. I can do 5k oil changes with Kirkland cheaper than I was doing 10k changes with Amsoil. :benchpress:

What’s the biggest tire you can run with no lift if you have the cam tower seepage?

It depends on your payload and if you have WDH on your 32' Toy Hauler.

I have it on good authority that only Tundras with towhooks can develop this oil leak.

I heard if your cam towers seep a lot, then it reduces your curb weight and you can run a sliding 5th wheel hitch in your crewmax.

Well, that, of course, depends on how much of your 38 gallon tank you can use before it shows empty on the gas gauge.

Weird, because I heard the seeping makes it easier to run 37”+ tires because it lubricates the wheel well and minimizes rubbing.

I never gave that much thought but I was aware the oil leaks were the result of Toyota's skunkworks type focus group's work to prevent future frame rust recalls. It was either that or an attempt to attract Harley Davidson owners.

Lot bigger, because the leaking oil will lube the rubber and it won't squeak touching the liners.

There was an opinion that the sealant is compromised with the oil turning acidic. Trucks with short OCI don't see that problem at all or see it only much later in life.
