Hey everyone! New to the forum after spending countless time reviewing these threads. I wanted to pose a question regarding apple carplay but as cheap as possible. I’m getting ready to overhaul the sound system (Fosgate T1000x5AD, JBL 605CSQ Front speakers, Kicker 46CSC654 Rear speakers, 2x JBL WS1000 subs, and sound matting) so I’m not so worried about sound quality with the Boss BE10ACP but I want to know if it’s a decent option to add CarPlay to your tundra? Also, if anyone has added this HU to an upgraded sound system? All experience and comments are welcome!

This is a tough one, personally i wouldn't touch anything from BOSS, but your "as cheap as possible" makes it look like its about the most cheap option out there by around $500. Seems like your expectations are in line, so go for it!
Just fyi, it does NOT have wireless carplay, only wired. You need to jump to the BECPA10W for the wireless version i believe.

Are you purchasing all the other equipment or already have it? That amp is a little pricey, i would consider getting a less expensive amp and a better head unit.

Up until seeing how cheap their 10in screen is, I was anti-boss too… kinda the reason I’m a little suspicious of their HU. On the other hand, I don’t need a HU with a beastly internal amp just something that has a decent CarPlay setup

Do you have all the other components you listed already or purchasing those as well?

I have everything but the HU. Thinking about holding off on install if a cheap head unit is a good idea. Would like to use RCA preamp outputs in an aftermarket hu. If I go with factory hu I will be splicing into the factory wiring harness (which isn’t a huge deal but I’d rather save time)

There's a huge gap in prices on these 10" head units. looks like there's some in the 350-500 range and then it jumps up to 1k.

If you've only got 3-400 in your budget for a head unit, it seems like that's the way to go (i think i saw that crutchfield has one bundled with a POS backup cam for less that the one without). I spent A LOT of money trying to keep my factory head unit and it was always a pain in the ass and was taking up too much time adjusting it to try to get the cleanest sound possible. I went with a kenwood dmx1037s and as happy as can be!

Just buy it from a place that has a good return policy if it ends up being doo-doo

Go to Best Buy, walk up to customer service, give them the SKU for the 1037! My will be delivered tomorrow, around $500 with tax!

Adding all of those components and then cheaping out on a headunit is kind of a backwards way of looking at it. $10k in audio gear will only amplify and reproduce whatever signal you feed them and can't make up for poor signal processing, DACs, and EQs. You may want to re-evaluate how you want to provide signal to the components that you have.

As far as Boss is concerned, I'd buy one to replace a radio in a car I'm selling and thats about it. They are rating their headunit power at about 25v input power and curiously (or smartly) don't publish any info on their S/N% or THD% numbers. I would be concerned you wouldn't be getting your money's worth out of your other gear and you would end up disappointed with the end result.
