I’m in the market for a winch and was going back and forth between a 10k and a 12k. Is the a 10k good enough?

Depends on what you want to do with it. If it's just for the truck to pull itself about, with a passenger or two, and maybe some light gear you're good. If you are gonna have a bunch of gear on the truck (rack, tent, heavy bumper, sliders, camping supplies, large passengers) then you might be better off going big. All in all, the 12k will do everything the 10k will, but the reverse isn't true. Just something to think on.

I went with 10K because I bought it mostly for sand pulls, but I can't argue with what Azure posted. There are plenty of ways to make the 10K more powerful though with blocks, etc... You just need to have them with you.

The rule of thumb is x1.5 your vehicle's GVWR. The Tundra is at about 7,000 -- give or take a few hundred based on body and trim. You'll be fine with a 10k. You can always increase the pull strength using pulleys, too.

That said, I have a 12k myself but my truck is in the 0.1% when it comes to Tundras.

They had a deal almost as good as that when I bought mine about 6 or 8 months ago, but they had none in stock and couldn't guarantee me to have shipment in 90 days. I paid a little more and got it in a week. I had bought a bumper already and needed it faster. Can't have new parts just sitting in the shop for the wife to focus on! LOL

Haha definitely not! Luckily our garage isn’t attached. Not sure I know of another person who “takes out the trash” twice per evening.

12k winch here. Might have to use it after our first major snowstorm/blizzard here in SD

I have the Smittybilt x2o 10k and have pulled the Tundra up and out of a few places with zero issues. I will be installing it on my new Tundra as soon as my bumper arrives. Go with synthetic line to save a few pounds!
