    Hi, all!
Long time listener, first time caller.

I've been reading here since I got my 2020 Tundra TRD January of 2020.

It's still stock, except audio upgrade, and the little bumper step, because I'm getting too old and crunchy to hoist myself in the bed every time I do something.

Anyway, I'll be bugging you guys, maybe tires, accessory light things, and definitely James for audio help. I had a shop replace speakers, put in amp and 10" subs...it's better sound, but not the enveloping sound I grew up on, and want! I *think* I need to figure out DSPs...

Photo when I've washed off evidence of the NC season that is 'the pollening'.

    Thanks,
    Steve

Welcome from the NC Piedmont and fellow Tundra owner suffering through "The Pollening". I also really want to upgrade the sound system in my 21, but would like to keep the factory head unit if possible. I had a 15 Tacoma with the "upgraded" JBL system and it actually sounded pretty good. Not the best in the world, but I never felt the need to upgrade it. Noticed a negative difference day 1 in my Tundra. Love the truck as a whole, but the sound system definitely sucks. Not sure if the desired outcome can be reached without changing the head unit out, but I'll be interested to see what you find out.

@Tundar the Barbarian Did that truck tow the trailer to that location or was the trailer already there?

Hey, LR23! Yep, still original head unit. Put dual 10" subs in a box, 5 channel amp, upgraded all door speakers. The front sounds great, the subs are excellent, it's just I only hear mids and highs all up front. If you get in the back, you hear the back. I want to be able to fade more to the rear, so I'm surrounded by it...I *think* that's what the DSP will get me? I'll let you know how it goes, once I get photos of my setup to James, and, hopefully, a solution!

And, yeah, I had a beater '05 Corolla with factory crappy speakers, possibly even a couple of those blown, and a $110 aftermarket stereo, and it sounded better than the factory Tundra....:annoyed:

    Welcome.
I'm guessing audio is non-JBL, it is better if that is the case.
On a non-JBL with the OEM Entune HU, the HU sends mids/lows to the front door 6X9 and rear door 6.5 (thru the under seat amp) and uses the dash speakers as 'tweeters'.
If you have a crewmax you'll have tweeters in the rear door as well.

The dash speakers run straight off the HU, and the front and rear doors run off the under seat amp.
Probably why you hear mids and highs, ALL UPFRONT coming out of the dash.

I added a nice set of Focal 2-way components with a Kenwood HU and a 5 channel Alpine, mounted the tweeters in JBL door sails, and disconnected all 3 dash speakers.
Awesome front stage with no dash speakers.

A couple of options, like you stated a DSP (James sells one), or replacing the HU with an aftermarket.
Many of us opted to go with the aftermarket HU, usually Kenwood or Pioneer, and an I-Datalink Maestro SW SteeringWheelControl adapter.

Dig around on www.crutchfield.com and see what your options are.
Also plenty of audio build threads on the forum to search thru.

    BTW, post more dog pics...
