    Hi all,

I have a 2013 crewmax 5.7 with a mystery knock going on with cylinder 1 during warm up that seems to slowly get worse over 30 to 45 second intervals & then stops knocking & runs fine for a sec, then starts to slowly start knocking again till the truck is fully warmed up.

This process seems to start happening when the temp gauge reaches the very first white line & will do so till warm. though revving the engine above 2k rpms will break the cycle for a second.
You can also hear a very distinct noise of a pump or something like that running & building up pressure as the knock gets worse over that time, then releases & starts the process over.

This will not set any codes even when put into check mode, I also installed a new plug & coil pack with no change. Ive also tried changing oils from mobil to toyota house brand once with no change & the same with 87 & 93 octane fuel.

Here is an decent recording of the sound

I feel like this is a sensor problem of some sort so Ive also spent alot of time looking thru my recorded TIS data trying to find anything that stands out but have had little luck since im not fully sure as what to look for & other then this warm-up knock the truck runs perfect.

Anyway I hope this problem stands out to someone cause its been driving me nuts.

    Thanks for any help!

Sounds like your timing chain tensioner has gone kaput. Intermittent problem mostly when cold. Mine does the same. It's a lot of work to replace.

I don’t mean to piggy back off someone else’s post but does this sound like the same thing?
