    Hi everyone,

I am new to the forum and thisnis my first post.

    A little back history.

My wife and I had leased a 2016 Tundra and initially had a good bit of an issue with the wiring being damaged by mice to the point of a 6k insurance claim where the dealership had the truck for a month and a half with everything but the top of the dash out of the truck. It had less than 400 miles on it at the time this occured.

My insurance said it was a one shot deal to fix it.
They had to replace the entire headliner and upper cabin light as well as fix over 16 wires in the engine bay.
Aftet that was all fixed we never had a problem aftet that.

We planned to buy thentruck after the lease but with the current interest rates being ai high we instead trades it in for a 2019 Tunndra the 2016 was just a differernt color and the now standard added safety features.

We pick it up a week ago this past Friday and drive it Saturday.
It was parked Sunday and Monday.

Go to start it Tuesday and the check engine light was on. My first thought was not again.

Bring it to the dealership and it threw 2 codes a P0441 and a P0455.

They checked the gas cap and it was fine as they had swapped it and reset codes. The codes came back.

First issue was it turned out to be a frozen purge valve on the charcoal canister.
The dealership replaced it and its still throwing the codes.

They did more investigating as the dealership had never seen this before kn a truck with less than 300 miles on it.

The 2nd issue they found was one of the vetns on the gas tank is cracked!

I love Toyota and we have a corolla that ince paid off is being traded in for a 4Runner.

But with this new 2019 already having these 2 rather in my thoughts major issues, Iam curious as to what your thoughts and opinions are regarding the situation.

The truck is currently still at the dealership since this last Friday waiting for a new gas tank with less than 350 miles on it.

Thankfully we are not being charged for anything but with these 2 major issues on this perticular truck. I am wondering what else may be issues at this point.

    It is a leased truck.

    Sorry this is so long.

We do love the Tundra just concered about this 1 particular truck.

Thank you for taking the time to read this.

Also due to it being so new and unusual the dealership is working with Toyota corporate and they want both the charcoal canister and the gas tank to investigate why or what caused the issues and failures.

    Joe

You can search the forum and read all kinds of threads on these faults..... wait, wait, no you can’t, wrong forum. It is more than likely the one unicorn that didn’t get its horn. Once it is fixed I’m sure you will enjoy it for years!!!!:hattip:

Sounds like they are trying to troubleshoot and fix everything the right way. There are so many parts in the assembly, you really never know if a vehicle may have some issues. Just wasn’t your day. Really your only option is too get it fixed, make sure everything is documented, and then enjoy the truck when it’s done. If these issues continue, again document, and then I would start squawking. I do feel your pain and concern though with a issues from a Toyota right off the lot.

Thankfully the dealership we are working with has been great and they remember the issues and frustration with the 2016 we had and the mice damage. I am very grateful for that.

I hear ya- damn mice! We had to have the whole dash and all the HVAC system pulled out of a Tacoma a few years ago due to mice getting way down in, building a nest and then a few of them dying in there. Luckily we had rodent damage on our policy. The dealer didn’t want to do anything until the insurance adjuster went to the dealership and into the service bay, and instructed them to rip everything out, clean, disinfect and replace whatever was necessary- and add screening to openings. Cost us $100.00 out of a $2,000 job.

One thing our dealership offers that does help alot is they pull out the wiper blade assembly and put stainless steel mesh in across that whole area then put the wiper bladea back in as well as put some in the area before the passenger cabin air filter which does help.

I also keep a product called fresh cab in the glove box and on the inside of the engine bay once or twice a month spray the inside of the engine bay with peppermint oil and it helps a ton!

    Not nearly enough room here!
X2 on the Peppermint Oil, it's something that works but doesn't have to stink to high Heaven like Moth Balls!

brand new so warranty work for sure and you leased it. I say wait til your lease is up see if you wanna buy it or not. See if you get some other issues after the current ones being fixed. It might just be bad luck on those parts.
