Had my 2023 Capstone in for the 30,000 mile service today. Asked if the fuel line issue had a permanent remedy yet. She said most likely they are going to do a full fuel tank swap out, and that Toyota has asked this particular dealer to do 10 Tundras tank swaps and send the old tanks to them. Also asked if she has had to send any engines to them, and her reply was that going forward, they would be doing full engine swaps on any that come into their dealer. No more rebuilding with new short blocks. This is one of the largest Toyota dealers in the Southeast. I asked how many failures they have seen in the last couple years, and her reply was only three.

    Alot of them
A dealership is not going to give out a true number of failures. That is a bad business move on their part. Look at all of the 3.5L V6 issues in the Tacoma. All 3 dealers near me deny there being any issues.

    Thanks.
I was at my dealer this week. No Gen3 zombies or on lifts.

Been lurking for close to a year

I’ve seen several 3Gs getting new short blocks at the dealership where I work. I haven’t seen any long block replacements as of yet.

My ‘23 Limited just hit 10,000 miles and it’s been great so far.

That doesn't make sense? ... interim repair is GTG in my book.

She seemed pretty proud of the fact that they were one of the select dealers that Toyota was working with to come up with a permanent fix for the fuel line issue. Maybe she's just a bullshitter, who knows?

Nah ... Toyota probably wanted a small sample size of fuel tanks with OEM fuel lines still installed to inspect and analyze extent of chafing damage.

Hard to tell who to believe- those that don’t have a gen3 and paint a picture of high failure numbers. Heck, one guy even wishes for bearing failures.

Or those fan boys that own one, think a small % are failing and don’t worry about Toyota doing the right thing whatever that turns out to be.

One thing for sure. I have heard about more failures on here. Than I have seen on side of ride. Hope I didn't just jynx myself.

Forums talk about issues so much that it magnifies problems but rarely solutions. Just like the rest of social media. Most of us don't have any major problems but get to worrying about problems others have that maybe we may one day have. Issues with Life and trucks almost always work out!
