    Need some Oracle advice...

Looking at adding a Yakima sliding rail system to my ARE topper. Has anyone installed it themselves?

Dealer quoted $400 installed for rails only. No towers and no crossbars.

Not alot weight will be up there, just need a place to store fly rods in the summer....

There is a YouTube video about the install. I believe they used a specific Yakima rails that is made for fiberglass topper. They basically drilled into the topper and used rubber washers and sealant to make it waterproof.

When i bought my 14 tundra up in Kalispell the topper came without the rails, even though i had requested them. A very reputable shop in Missoula installed them for me, and Toyota paid for it- unfortunately they leaked after a few years but luckily I was able to get it covered due to the issue and having a dealer install them (not normally the case).

    Thanks for this info.

Got ahold of the ARE dealer in Kalispell. They carry Rhino systems in stock and installation of the system is only $200. The leaking was the main worry for me installing myself.

Watch a video on YouTube, and im pretty sure it would take me a bit to install myself correctly. Just going to take it in the spring, before fishing season.

I've got a Rhino rack to install, just haven't done it yet. My buddy who owns a truck shell sales company said if it's got "carpet" on the inside of the shell, have someone hold a piece of wood tight to the underside to reduced the drill getting tangled in the carpet.

I installed Yakima rails myself. The sealant come with them. The hard parts, my cap has a thick section in the middle, don't drill the holes through the transition bevell. Also nothing is square, hard to get consistent measurements. If you have someone to help hold a straight edge, no problem.
