Had my #1 ignition coil go bad. I replaced it and all good. Should I replace the rest of them (7 more)? Does one going bad indicate the rest of them are due?

I’d wait for a good deal on a full set of Densos. Unless you’re taking a long trip, probably not. It’s really a personal preference. Maybe keep an extra in the glove box? Dunno

At a minimum, inspect the remaining coils for cracks.

I was able to get 4 densos at a really good price. Paid dearly for 1 at the dealer when it went bad initially . So if I can find 3 more I’d had a new set. Unfortunately I’m selling the truck, so saving on repairs is preferred, but also want to give it to someone in solid condition

Ah, I see you're selling. That changes things.

Yea, but I’m not one to sell someone a truck with a lurking issue. So if I can get 3 more at a decent price I’ll pull the trigger.

But wasn’t sure if it was a situation where if one goes bad they all will shortly after

Sometimes it happens that way. @Professional Hand Model noted that his coils were out of spec per the Field service manual by way of testing the electrical resistance of the coils. Still ran fine, just out of tolerance per se.

Some have said that they start to go one by one, and some have said that they only have one go, and they just replace the one.

I can't really give you a definitive answer on your question. It does seem to be the case more often than not that it's just one coil

My 2000 has 250K and I've replace 5 of them over the years. They definitely let you know when they go bad as the truck becomes a bucking bronco when accelerating and will through a code. Buy one spare and keep it in one of the storage spaces. Odds are you'll not need another one before you sell.

Ok cool. I’ve got 4 I bought so maybe I’ll pull them and see if any look rough and save one of the new ones as a spare

    This is what I'd do.

If you have OEM replacements, give them to the new owner, let them know one went bad, so you went ahead and picked up spares just in case another one follows. Any reasonable person would feel that's above and beyond, especially knowing what they cost. I wouldn't bother with buying a full set.

I'm a "replace as they go" guy when it comes to coils and injectors both.
