Would you go ahead or wait a couple months and see if there are better incentives/prices/etc?

    I’m thinking hard...

    Now, or wait and see?
    Gently used 2016+, or new?
    SSM, or MGM?

    Ha ha!! Got there first.

I don’t know- what kind of incentives are they running?

    Also, make your list of non-negotiable ‘must haves’;

    5.7?
    LED headlights?
Do want the 38 gal gas tank?
    Gotta have a sunroof?
    Want the TRD Offroad package?
Leather a deal-breaker, or can you install that?
Want the adaptive cruise etc... with TSS?

The year you choose may affect how the truck is equipped.

All the factory stereos are lacking... don’t pay for premium if you want good sound and are going to replace it all anyway.

Most of the threads that are used vs. new on here seem to show that you’re not going to get a steal on used because the high resale is so consistent.

Right now I am waiting to see what Toyota has to offer with the current incentives expiring tonight. If they don't come up with something really good I will just wait till late summer. The way I look at it is I will just have more money to put down. I have been keeping an eye on a lot of dealers and its not like the Tundras have been selling Tundras like crazy. At some point they will have to give the dealers more incentive to move inventory considering they are starting up the plants after 2 months of sitting idle.

The only reason I can come up with for waiting is if you want the next generation with the V^. No, the V si. I can't even say it. The new engine that is smaller and has turbos. Otherwise, I'd buy now and start enjoying the new ride sooner rather than later.

I don’t think it will get any better. Dealerships are feeling the pinch and they need the cash flow. As states open back up, the incentives will eventually dry up as people feel their jobs are more secure. One example, I offered 55k + TTL for a new BMW M2 Competition in Jan. Late March, the dealership reached out to me and asked if I was still interested in that same M2. They were willing to play ball now. Mind you, this M2 MSRP at 67k. To go down 12k was never going to happen then. Unless you really want a turbo 6, and feel that job is secure, I’d feel incentivized to buy now.

Dealerships feeling the pinch would make me think they’d be more willing to deal.

I hope we begin recovery soon. As people get back to work, I wonder if they won’t hold on to their money a little longer even and play it safe. Most states that are opening back up are seeing a trickle of people out and about, not a flood.

    I wonder if used prices will fall. I wouldn’t hate a well-maintained 2016-2018 SR5 that I could build out how I want.

Maybe you save a little bit by waiting, playing the game and breaking their balls over every little thing. Maybe. Is that really how you want to spend your time? I don't have that kind of patience. Sitting in the F&I office, all I could hear in my head was a speech about the Truecoat from the movie Fargo. Oh, you have to buy the Truecoat. Everybody get it. My boss says he'll knock $50 bucks off the cost of the car. Oh, man.. That nonsense is NOT worth the hassle and time.

I'd be surprised if they do anything drastic. Tundras seem to sell just fine around here. I bought mine in late 2018 and had a hell of a time finding what I wanted. I was willing to travel or have one shipped, but it wasn't going to happen. I had to give on my color preference-twice. I still dig the black and it looks amazing when its clean. It just wasn't what I was really interested in initially. Now, I love it.

As for used, forget it. I was looking for a very long time for used. Even the super high mileage and salvaged vehicles were priced through the roof. In the end, buying new only cost me a few grand more than buying used. It was worth it to get a warranty and to know that nobody had done any backyard bob kind of modifications to it. I can't put a price on peace of mind.

My advice is this: Figure out exactly what you want and locate the vehicle yourself using the phone, searching dealer websites or using a service if you have to. Get your financing in order through your credit union. Start sending emails looking for the best OTD price. Not the best price plus fees, taxes and whatever made up BS they have going on, but the actual out the door price. Pitch a couple of dealers against one another. When you're at the number you want, go buy it and take a long weekend trip somewhere nice.

Or, wait it out for days/weeks/months until the price drops-IF it drops-and hope they have the configuration that you want. I'd rather be out and about in my new truck enjoying life. Its your call.

I’d buy new, now. Solid discounts and they’ve been running financing incentives.

be sure to get the 38 gallon fuel tank, anything else is personal preference

38 gallon for sure, leather can always go katzkin for $700 or less off ebay. LED lights unless you want retros.
Toyota is running great incentives now.

I have the same dilemma and want to make a decision today. There is a $2,750 incentive plus 0.9% financing and 90 days to pay at my local dealer.

I thought I found the right one, but now am paralyzed between different packages. The kicker is the LED headlights.

Anyone have any opinions on spending more on an OR or Limited package to get the LEDs?

    thanks in advance!

Get the true LED’s I was never a believer until I saw the review by Headlight revolution. Compared to my 2017 Halogen + part LED DRL’s the difference is huge. Light output on high beam is something ridiculous 2400-2600 Lux/lumens/angry pixies...
By far the best LED lights for standard night driving.

    Thanks for your response.

Yeah, coming from a 2018 Landcruiser, I got spoiled with the LEDs. You confirmed my choice.

I honestly never cared about headlights until my current Tundra came with LEDs. The light output is so much better. I will go LEDs from now on. I live out in a rural area without street lights so the improvement is well noticed. If you live in/around a city that is well lit up it might not be as big a deal. I wouldn't choose the vehicle on the LEDs alone. There are so many aftermarket options that are inexpensive.

Just a heads up, have you talked to them about the incentives? I dont think you get all that, it's one or the other. At least thats the way the dealerships in Indiana were. If you take the Toyota cash, you dont get the .9

Again, could be wrong, but thats what i found, so just be prepared.

I would say new. Resale on decent trucks and even not decent is super high, close to new pricing. Just don’t get crazy with add ons at the dealer and you can get one for fairly inexpensive. 0 percent for perfect credit expires today. I would guess they will have another deal to replace it. But its all gambling. Don’t get screwed on your trade in either. They are trying to make the most off of you that they can . Dealers have huge expenses they are worried about paying right now

Ah good point. I guess, one should never assume. Now, if one of the dealerships would sell me their Army Green pro at invoice less dealer holdback, I'm signing right now. LOL

Word on the street is dealerships are not getting hardly any 2020s going forward, especially the higher trims. Supply and demand might take over and spike the prices. Will be interesting to see how this all plays out......

Here in New England the new incentives came out today. The cash back stayed the same at $2750. Been looking for while and quickly realized unless a crazy deal on a used truck came up they are just to expensive. So new is the way to go for me.

These trucks hold such ridiculous value. Buying a 1-4 year old truck is IMO stupid, all you get is less warranty and the unknown of why the truck got traded in. I prefer to go to the dealer and get the exact truck I want, no surprises. If they didn't have it, I've had it shipped in (had to do this with my 20 CM) I wanted a bench seat, 4X4 SR5 It took a week to get the truck, but I got what I wanted no added BS, She's my truck the way I wanted her. Now if I could only do that with the other woman in my life I'd be set. On a added note The SUPER WHITE IS THE FASTEST COLOR!

Here is the fine print on the $2750 cash back in the DC Metro area.

"Cannot be combined with TFS APR Cash, TFS Lease Cash, Customer Cash, APR, Lease, APR Subvention Cash, Lease Subvention Cash"

I bet you could negotiate both since most vehicles are sitting on lots right now.

Living in Canada, I actually prefer halogen lights because they get hot and thus stay clear in a snow storm. But I don't drive much in rural areas at night.

I was looking last fall and then again in Jan/Feb but held off. I starting looking again last month. Right now the best I am seeing for what I am looking for is a DC SR5 for 18.3% off MSRP. That includes taking the $2750 Toyota cash. That is probably right on track with the best deal I could find last fall, and better than it was in Jan/Feb.

This. Although I have a good friend with the patience of Job. He will wait FOREVER until the best possible deal comes along OR he's forced into a decision out of absolute necessity. Took him 3 years to decide on his last vehicle. 3 years of looking for that specific one - used, at the price/mileage/trim/options/color he wanted. But, that's him and how he likes to operate.

Personally if I was in need and looking I wouldn't wait for potential better deals. I'd negotiate a deal I thought was good and could afford it and buy it. There's always a worse deal and a better deal than what you got. You just have to be happy with the deal you got. If that means waiting, then wait. Personally if planning on keeping I'd buy new. If you go through cars every five years then buy used. Don't want to be paying that depreciation every 5 years on a new rig.

I went with the SR5 with the TRD off road package. Very pleased. The SR5 is basically a Lego; you can start sticking whatever you want on it. This site DOES NOT help....
