I want to convert factory driving lights to amber fog lights.

Should be easy. I have factory LED lighting for headlights and driving lights. I just want to replace the factory LED driving light bulbs with aftermarket amber LED bulbs. Been searching all over the forum and internet and can't figure out which style LED bulb are OEM.

    Any ideas?

The 2021 LED headlight is a sealed assembly. There are no bulbs to replace in it except the amber turn signal. Everything else is a manufactured unit… if the LED goes for some reason, the whole headlight assembly gets replaced (or maybe you try DIY replacing individual LED chips, but I’ve yet to see someone do that).

if you are wanting amber DRL lights (the C-Shape) then I think @TRDFerguson recently got some aftermarkets from @memario1214 that are set up that way

And if you are referring to the fog lights, those are also a self-contained unit. Either some amber vinyl over the lens, or replace the fogs with amber aftermarket setups like Baja Designs Squadron SAE or Diode Dynamics SS3

Very pleased with my Baja Designs Squadrons in the factory fog location. I didn’t go with the SAE option that was available when I bought, but understand that the newer version is better and brighter than the original SAE.

For what it’s worth, I rarely get light flashed from oncoming traffic with my Squadron Sports and wide cornering amber lenses.

    Hey @MountainMan,

If you are looking for a fog light replacement. I would recommend checking out our direct fog light kit for the Tacoma. As @Chad D. mentioned we do have two different kits one being SAE and the other being an OHV light. With our newer SAE fog light replacement, we utilize a new optic that allows 56% more light output than our gen 1 SAE as well as creating a sharp cut-off. If you have any questions about our product, please feel free and reach out.

@Chad D. how are you enjoying our Squadron Sports? Are you running any of our other lights on the truck?

    Best,
    Bill

Driving lights are the auxiliary lights other than the headlights located lower in the bumper. Fog lights are the same lights, but only if they are amber or a specialized beam designed for fog. At least that's the most commonly used terms I've seen used in 40 years of driving and being in the automotive industry.

I know some people call them fog lights, even when white, but that's incorrect, IMO.

The common term for the lights in the bumper is fog lights, and that is across the board. Their efficacy aside, that is the common term, and that is why people were confuse. There's lots of options for amber fog lights.

    I’ve got a few…

Plus the S1’s flush mounted in the rear bumper and (4) Squadron Sports with work/scene lenses on the tractor…

Just got the S8 back in the mail from a quick warranty fix yesterday.

OP is right…. Driving lights are often called fogs. And the other way around!

I think the industry has migrated toward the term “fog” more than driving, so that’s what we typically call ‘em. Kinda like, when the hell did ditch lights start getting called ditch lights? Mine aren’t aimed in the ditch, so am I wrong???

My suggestion would be this above or pull the bulb that you want to replace and then go from there with what ever color you want to replace them? Plenty of info out there about replacing them with the amber units. Or the bulb.

my daughter replaced the whole unit with just a little help so I know it isn’t that hard,,, and I was the little help.

Assuming Toyota didn’t go backwards, the OP’s truck should have LED fog (driving?) lights. No bulb to replace.

Edit: I just reread the original post. LED fer sure. Time to replace the whole shitaree.

    Hey @Chad D.,
How's the S1 working out as a chase light or work light? (4) Squadron Sports on a tractor! That sounds rad, do you mind sharing some photos of that? Would love to see them mounted up on that thing.

In the trucks with LED lights, there is no bulb to pull. It is a single unit - housing and all.

It’s definitely money, but the OEM lights do not hold a candle to a good set of high end retrofit lights.

A coating will make them yellow, but the OEM just doesn’t do much. Even the LED ones. Totally cool if you’re just wanting yellow, but don’t expect much performance!

So you’re changing the color of your fog lights from factory to amber? What’s the benefit?

Amber colored fog lights you say? Here’s the cheap and quick way of doing it. Just a few minutes worth of arts and crafts and your old lights will be cutting through the fog while blasting offroad at 60mph!

That used to work, but not since Sharpies went non-toxic a few decades ago. Sure, they still have a Prop-65 warning, but so does a glass of water.

Ah. I didn't realize those were considered Amber. I always thought of amber as like turn signal color. I knew about the yellow lights being better for driving in certain conditions. Just like having yellow glasses for target practice or certain construction.

Here in the PacNW we get all sorts of weather...driving rain, dust, dense fog, heavy snow, ect. If you use the clear lens BD leds in those conditions, it can be detrimental to safely seeing the roads (or obstacles in the road). Their amber (yellow colored) lens helps alleviate that. Yes you do loose some usable lumens, but what you get back in return is better lighting. I’ve noticed that all of the BD clear lenses (spot, driving combo, wide cornering) can be detrimental in some of those really bad weather conditions. I have absolutely zero experience with their new SAE Squadrons, so i can’t speak on with them in particular. I must have anywhere from 30~40 Baja Designs lights on all sorts of vehicles, motos, and a JD garden mower (no, i’m not exaggerating on the numbers), so i’m fairly well versed with them. Plus i’ve installed around 20 more Squadrons and S2’s on family and friend’s
vehicles/motos. I primarily use a pair of Squadron Sport Amber wide cornering as my fog lights. If it starts snowing really hard and you have a clear lens (on say a Squad Pro or a OnX light bar) blasting on high, your view through the windshield will be exactly sitting next to Chewbacca on the Millennium Falcon as it’s traveling through Hyperspace. The light reflects off of the individual snowflakes that are coming at you at 55mph. And that’s the reasoning behind the amber lens.

Living in the PacNW makes me want to get a pair of the new style SAE Squadrons. But i think i would prefer some sort of SAE/ normal lens combo though...the bottom two LEDs be the SAE version, while the top two be the normal Pro spot lens.

Great thing about @Baja Designs is the serviceable lens so you can go back and forth. I’ll run clear when dust/fog/snow isn’t a concern just based on preference of light color.

    Hey @AZBoatHauler
Appreciate you rocking with Baja Designs on the truck. The front bumper you have in the second picture really sets off the front end. How are you enjoying your lighting setup?

    Best,
    Bill

Love everything I have from you guys. Currently running the SAE fogs, S2 Ditch lights, and S1 chase lights. You guys were extremely helpful getting me the right bezels when I switched bumpers saving the hassle of buying and selling different sets. Need to save some more pennies so I can replace that RC with a 30” S8 or throw some LP6s on the bumper.
