I am exploring some options for safely towing a horse trailer that has a coupler a little too low to accommodate a weight distribution hitch. I can do it but my clearance is low, and the trailer tongue is 3" inches too short for my e2 trunnion bar distribution hitch.

I have an appointment to get an adjustable coupler installed but when I think of what the total assembly will look like, it is way too many nuts and bolts!

So here I am wishing my Tundra had a class 5 hitch like our 2500hd has, and so I googled:

Good grief! How in the world would a Tundra handle this! And it does NOT appear to replace a weight distribution hitch.

I dont think this does what you think it does and is really not some big deal at all but more just a different option for the mechanical attachment point of the hitch to the truck.

The load rating for the Tundra will not change in any way, well aside from being reduced by the weight of the hitch maybe.

Have you looked at the Gen-Y Hitch that seems to me an ideal option to merely lower the coupler height while still letting you use a WDH setup as long as it will not hit the ground in use?

Why would you even select a trailer that will not work with the truck just as it is?
Did you already have this trailer?

New trailer delivered to me. Manufacturer assured me it would work with a WDH and, in fact, they installed the Fastway 2e Trunnion square bar at the factory. It was delivered to me and the lowest setting on the shank is one hole too high for my Tundra, but works with a F150.

I looked at the Gen-Y Hitch and that is similar to what they want to replace the coupler with. I just don't like the idea of all those bolts.
