Hey guys new to this. I have 15 tundra limited the owners Manual told me 7.9 qt. I been Changing my oil for years, but this is the first time I take the dipstick out, it's over the fill line by at least an inch can't understand why? I put 500 Miles on it and everything seems fine.It doesn't overheat! Help tell me I'm not going crazy!

300 hectares on single tank of kerosene
You put in an extra quart somehow. That is the only explanation, barring some kind of catastrophic failure which it doesn't sound like you have. Or you didn't let it all drain out. Do you use the 1 gallon jugs or individual quarts for oil changes.. or are they 5 quart jugs? Can't remember.

Only difference this time was the motor was hot. So after thinking about this and on this site, Most of the oil was still in the oil cooler. That's probably why!

    I wouldn't worry about it.

Mine always is on the full mark at 7.5 qts. I'm not leaving that 1/2 qt sitting on the shelf. Into the truck it goes. I always show above the full mark when I check it.

Once it starts, over a qt goes up top and around, not terrible to go a little over. Too much will foam and destroy it though. Fine line.

    Why?

The plastic oil filter housings are much easier to remove when engine is cool. Everyone thinks it's the oil change tech using an impact wrench to install the filter housing. The plastic just swells when it warms.

If you think you are getting more used oil out, you are mistaken. There is easily a pint of oil laying the pan that can not come out.

I was very surprised when I pulled my pan and saw this.

When you were an inch over did you check it right after you put the oil in and before you started it? Was the truck level when you drained the oil? 5.7l correct? I drain my 5.7 nose high and get more out than normal. I'm real close to 9 qts when I fill.

Can vac out through dipstick hole. Faster drain when warm due to being less viscous.

I have laboriously calculated how much further I can go between oil changes since ramping the fronts. 5,289.3 miles.

I really want to see this extractor. I have one and no way is it faster than pulling the pan plug.

But yes, that might get the last few ounces of used oil out.

I didn't type it that way, but you are correct in that I was referring to sucking out what you can't drain.

I used to LOVE that when I would do that. I think it happened exactly once and I got relatively frustrated. But, just put the old back in and got new. Another time however, I was pouring fresh oil in or so I thought. A huge puddle of fresh oil on the ground later and I never made THAT mistake again either.
