After upgrading our travel trailer from a 19' that weighed 3500 lbs to a 29' Keystone that weighs 6000 lb - I am now woefully aware of what 8 mpg feels like and only having 26 (less than, really) gallons.

I see the upgrade for the 38 gal tank ($1000) and the upgrade for the transfer flow 46 gal tank ($2000)

Honestly, its overkill for what I need. I only need more fuel when I am towing in the sparse areas from pandhandle to Colorado mountains.

And I will especially need it when I take the family to Orlando next year. We're staying in Fort Wilderness and I am towing our trailer from Texas to Florida. I don't want to stop every 200 miles

Has anyone put in a bed mounted fuel tank that I can just pull over at a rest area or restaurant and fill my tank? It would either be empty, or removed 90% of the time. I camp 2 - 3 times a year.

If I am going to go to the trouble, I would want at least another 25 - 30 gallons with the ability to just transfer pump it in (meaning fast filling)

You just listed the two best options, and then shot them down after mentioning the price. Jerry cans are the cheap way. The aforementioned options are the most convenient way. Sometimes we have to pick one.

That's cool. Although it doesn't appear to be able to transfer the fuel into the factory tank. Also same amount of fuel as the 3 jerry cans.

It’s one of those things I would have to put a pencil to paper and try to figure out how much weight the total will add then in doing so your mpg will go down even further. I then would make a decision if it would be worth all the xtra STUFF. :)

A gallon of regular gas weighs about 6.3 pounds (240 pounds for 38 gallons) plus the tank, plus the xtra tank plus the xtra gas.

    Supercharger?

While I'm very glad (Except when I have to fill it :eek2:) I have the 38 gallon tank, it seems like a lot of trouble and expense for 2 or 3 times a year.

200 miles @ 65mph = 3 hours. It's rare that we can make it more than 3 hours without me, my wife, or the dogs needing a potty break.

Someone posted a write-up yesterday on some nifty Jerry Can mounts they installed that go just inside the tailgate. One on each side you get you 10 gallons, so close to an additional 100 miles for relatively little expense.

    Found it.

With jerry cans, you have to lift and hold them when emptying into your gas tank, each 5 gallon jerry can. A transfer tank doesn't require this at all. BTW, bed mounted transfer tanks are used often by aircraft owners that can use auto gas in their airplanes (requires a Supplemental Type Certificate to do so but are generally easy to get).

If I was the OP I would definitely look into a stock 38 gallon tank or go luxury with a bed mounted transfer tank. JMO.

Could get a battery powered fuel transfer pump for about $50, (or $100 for a 5 gallon jug/pump combo) so no lifting & holding. 2.2 GPM so a couple minutes for a 5 gallon can.

I agree that the 38 gallon tank upgrade makes sense, (very glad I have that instead of the smaller one) and gas cans are a pain in the ass, but OP called it overkill and (to me) seems like a big expense for 3 camping trips a year.

I doubt very much I'd spend $1K to change tanks if it were me... I can buy a new surfboard for that!

    I like new surfboards.

Wow, did not know those existed, what a great idea. Pretty cost effective also.

My shaper works a couple different glassers, not sure who did these but I don't think it was Moonlight.

    Pretty huh?
