I may have to sell. What's the used market look like?

The short of it is that I may have a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for work this year. It might not be feasible or practical to keep my truck if I do this. So I'm contemplating several options, one of which is to sell it. Quite reluctantly as I've only had it a few months. But trucks come and go while some people try their whole careers for something like this and never get it. So I'm trying to stay open to all options.

When I bought in the winter, the used market was insane. Unlike anything I've ever seen. But I hear it's cooled off a little in some areas, but not in others.

What's the market look like these days? How much would a rig like this be going for to a private party or a dealer?

It's a 2018 Tundra CM 1794 Edition. TRD Pro package. 32K miles, clean title. Immaculate condition inside, outside, and underneath. Have added a tail gate electronic lock (OEM), full Line-X spray-on liner (dealer-installed); full BedRug liner; MX4 tonneau cover; bakbox 2; FRAC harness & front camera; wireless chargers & mounts; and miscellaneous other small mods. Nothing major. No mechanics have changed.

Not sure I'll go down this road to sell, but it might make the most sense. Just trying to understand what my options are and if I'll have to take a loss if I do sell.

market is the same as it has been the past year. Sellers market, you will get top dollar and should have no issue selling.

Regardless of your decision you can establish a price floor using Vroom and Carvana. Private sale will be the way to go but this can give you a quick estimate of what you can get for no hassle.

Edit: Rising gas prices will drive the truck market down.

The extras will not add value beyond curb appeal for buyers who want those items, but a truck like that should still sell for $50k or north

Just traded the ranch’s loaded 4x4 2017 Ford F350 SRW crew cab with 89,000 miles, 6.7L turbo diesel V-8 for a 4x4 2022 Ram 3500 dually Laramie Midnight package with a mega crew cab with the 6.7 turbo diesel & all the towing bells & whistles. Local Ram/Dodge dealer gave me $12,000 more than I paid for the Ford In 2017. (Dealer even let me tow the horse trailer with the Ram before I wrote the check which I thought was really nice).

A second for using Vroom and Carvana as a baseline for pricing...

Interesting. Carvana comes in at only $35K. Vroom is higher at $37K. But both are way under where I'd expect them to be. Even the KBB puts down a trade-in range of $46-50K and private party of $48-53K. I suspect Carvana and Vroom are accounting for gas prices lowering their chances of a sale, but that's still a far larger delta than I'd have expected to see.

Try Autonation. They suck on buying but paid me 3-5k more than anyone else offered.

Those are very low ball, they are probably (prematurely) expecting a crash so they don't want to be stuck holding overpriced stock. Private sale is probably your best best; in some states you may be able to find a third party that lists and shows the car for a small commission. I have zero tolerance for BS interaction these days.

GLWS if you pull the trigger.

Got a smoking deal on a newer 4 horse trailer with living quarters & it just felt weird towing it with the Ford (like it was on the verge of being out of control). Never had a dually before & it really makes a difference when towing. Now I’m broke & can’t afford the fuel so the whole set up makes for nice lawn ornaments.

Working on selling mine. This week vroom offered 31k which is crap. Local ford dealer saw autotrader listing and offered 37k to sell outright. Private party offer yesterday for 40k. KBB tells me I should wait for 43k. Weird times.

Actually I followed up with the 40k private offer. Turns out its actually another dealer 2 hours away that will drive here to pick up for that price. So the dealers definitely are willing to pay. Question is can you find in a replacement.

I agree replacements are hard to find. I ended up with more truck than I wanted with my recent trade from a Ford to a Ram, but I feel safer & so will the family when they get going with ropings, brandings, rodeos, cattle sales etc. (that’s if the ranch can afford to pay for the fuel)
