I started wearing prescription glasses a few months ago. I opted for single vision lenses for distance seeing. Well, looking at things up close like my phone became a pain in the butt. So I upgraded to progressive lenses. While they do correct my vision for distance and up close, they're going to take some getting used to. Any tips or advice from you veterans of the glasses world?

    What’s wrong with stock?
They will feel weird for a few days. You’ll get used to it to them. You need to start moving head up and down to focus as the lens focuses differently as you move up and down the lens.

I could never get used to progressive lenses. I went back to single vision and just raise them to look at my phone or read.

Use handrails while using steps. If you haven't learned this already, lenses with larger vertical sizes work better for both distance and reading. Get a copy of your RX and order glasses online. I use Zenni and am 100% satisfied.
I've been wearing progressive bifocals for 30 years and it did take a few days to go up and down steps without feeling like I was going to trip and fall.

Yeah, I was worried that my frames didn't have enough vertical real estate for progressives, at least not for a newbie like me. They're only 35.3mm tall. But, I just want to get used to them before I buy another set with different frames. Since wearing glasses, I've become an Oakley fanboy. That's my current frames, and will be my next frames, just a different model with a little more vertical size.

I only wear mine for driving as prescribed....

Can not wear them to read as some have stated, blurry looking down towards your nose full time..

I have mine because my Sugar was raising hell but now that is under total control my site is back to 20/15 ...

Good luck with them and PLEASE listen to your body.... Took me arriving at 60ish to learn this o_O:thumbsup:

    x2 on this... @Solid Snake

I scan w/my eyes A LOT; in lieu of pointing my head (nose or whatever) at what I'm trying to see... I tried them for a while and just couldn't get them to work for me. I about killed myself going down some stairs one day cuz I 'glanced' down, and the 'zoom' screwed up my depth perception.

My wife on the other hand loves them and adjusted to them almost immediately. She, on the other hand, moves her head a lot as she's looking around up and down, etc...

I will say this though.... The Oakley Holbrooks have a large lense area, but fit well on average sized faces/heads. The bulk of the lens sits below eye level. I have them as a prescription distance sunglass, and they are phenomenal. If you end up trying to do a larger lens w/progressives, you can basically have your entire 'line of sight' portion of the lens for distance and the reading portion at the bottom forcing you to really scan downward to pick up the reader portion.

However, with all that being said, I think if you find yourself a 'pointer' when it comes to scanning progressives will work, but if you through all vertical planes and scan horizontally as well, you'll probably always struggle w/progressives.

Yes, I am learning that I need to move my head rather than just my eyes to scan. I'm getting used to it though, I think these may work out. Just need to order something a little bigger, like I said.

I'm going back to single lenses too. Up close I have my glasses off anyway.

I need correction for distance and up close. Up close isn't too bad, but its just going to get worse over time. Might as well get accustomed to multifocal lenses now. That's my thought process anyway.

I went out of my way to *not* get progressive lenses. LOL That said, my case is a bit different.

I'm farsighted slightly in my right eye; and nearsighted in my left. Both have a slight astigmatism. With that said...while neither condition is terrible, the nearsightedness in my left eye is worse than the farsightedness in my right eye.

TL;DR: I don't need reading glasses. I DO need distance glasses for driving, watching TV, etc. So I just bought glasses to essentially correct the nearsightedness and such, and added polarization/transition stuff, blue light blah blah. I'll likely get >1 pair of glasses in the future, unless I find it to be a huge PITA to switch out glasses constantly.
