I have a 2005 tundra with manual transmission and the shifter won't go into reverse.

Try letting off the brakes to let the truck roll a bit while pushing in the clutch and at the same time apply LIGHT pressure to the shifter as if your going to shift into reverse. Should slide right in. I’ve had several Toyota manual trans trucks and cars and I have always had to do this at some point. Sometimes manual transmission synchros don’t like letting you shift from a dead stop. Changing your transmission gear oil with clean appropriate fluid might help your situation too. Hope this helps.

    Thanks for the answer OP.

    I guess Toyota really didn't make a V8 manual........and it's a pity too.

Could your clutch be going out? My old Honda Accord (which to this day I regret letting my parents talk me into selling), when it got time for a new clutch, would simply not go into reverse, IF THE ENGINE WAS RUNNING.

That's right, to get it into reverse I would have to shut off the engine, then shift into reverse (normal use of clutch pedal of course). I'd then restart the engine and back the car up. Oddly enough it'd shift fine into first gear and all forward gears if engine was running. Got a new clutch and BINGO that problem came to an end.

In addition to this, I've always made it a habit to put it in 1st, then reverse in every manual I've driven. Does it grind when you try to put it in reverse? AFAIK, reverse doesn't have a synchro.

No synchro? Can we just double clutch?

Been so long since I drove a manual, not sure if I always came to a stop before going into reverse. I'm sure I did though.

Anyway....still think OP needs to get the clutch looked at as I think it's going out.

Does a Tundra manual transmission have a plastic bushing that’s located at the base end of the shifting lever (that goes inside the shift tower)? Most vehicles have one, and they do wear out and can cause shifting problems. I’m not saying it is the problem in this instance, but if it is, it’s going to be the least expensive fix.

Could be slave cylinder or clutch master not releasing the clutch all the way for it to shift properly. These are wear items. I wouldn't immediately suspect an internal transmission problem.

Was it hard to shift into reverse before?

Can you not get into reverse only when the truck is running? If the truck is off and you can you shift the trans into reverse then I agree it’s probably not an internal problem like Half Assed said. Check all the easy stuff people suggested on here first before you let the shop talk you into rebuilding, replacing or even dropping the trans. It can all be checked without removing it.

I had to replace this bushing on my 97 T100 shifter, because it was popping out of first. Worked like a charm. Cheap and easy fix.
I also installed a URD short throw shifter while I had it apart. The truck had 300k miles and the synchros were worn out, so I had to bang it into gear. But it ran great. Pretty sure those 3.4L manuals came with 4.10 or even 4.30 gears back then. Was fun fun truck, but a money pit.
