This was mine this last week. The alternator stop working and then the battery died. I was out in a rural area and could not make it to the dealership. This was caused by the cam tower oil leak. The oil falls into the alternator, it was all wet with oil. I didn't think it was that bad because I never have to add oil and it does not leave anything on the ground. I am just going to have to have the towers resealed soon. I wish Toyota would help with this, I have called but no luck. The truck has just over 104,000 miles.

Seems almost impossible for it to leak onto the alternator. Usually I see them leaking towards the back of the engine. Probably because it’s tilted that way. Not saying it’s impossible, I’m just surprised. Sorry you’re having problems. I never like to see a Tundra on the back of a flatbed.

That does suck! Hopefully Toyota will do something. In this case and with the cam tower issue they need to step up.

My FJ Cruiser alternator failed at around 150k, and looked identical to that. I could barely get the damn thing out it was so slippery. On those I believe its the timing belt cover - and oil has a sneaky way of going in direction you wouldn't believe. Its not always just a drip down.

At least it made it that many miles, reality is Toyota is not without problems and there are people that keep claiming bulletproof and will never have problems and I cringe when I hear that. I love my tundra, 2014 almost 80k miles no problems but I know sooner or later something will happen. I hope Toyota or the dealer can help you out.

    Total bummer!

I have to say, this is only one of maybe a handful of Tundras on a flatbed.

Sucks. Colossal pain in the ass. Toyota needs to step up to the plate on this one.

Sorry for your trouble OP. I've been driving Toyotas for about 25 years now and every one of them (pickups, Camry, Solara, 1st Gen Tundra, Corolla)leaked oil at some point. Ironically my '08 Tundra is not leaking .... yet. Great vehicles, just leaky.

Got a similar photo. Mustang was only a few months old at that point. Had a horrendous scraping sound coming from the back end. I feared a wheel bearing, but it ended up just being a rock stuck between the brake rotor and shield. The sticky summer compound tires that come on that particular GT configuration never ran over a rock they didn't want to keep.
