I don't love my Tundra but I am learning to.

It had been just over a year since I purchased my 2019 Tundra SR5. As a former Ford F150 addict it has taken me a while to get used to the Tundra. The 6 speed trans, lower gear ratio, unlevel rear floor, low MPG, and poor nav. are all things that I am still not crazy about on the Tundra.

I still have an occasional wandering eye for other trucks, but I am getting to the point that I like looking back at my Tundra after parking it. I think when I get a new aftermarket HU installed I will be much happier. The best part is that my truck is all paid off and I am into it for the long run and the reliability.

Yea the reliability and just simple functionality is where the 2nd/2.5 gens shine . They definitely don't compete with all the high tech stuff in the f150s , but they have an old school charm about them.

And don't forget the Tundra betters the Big 3 half-ton trucks: taller frame sections, larger cross members, huge differential and rear axle (on the 5.7), huge double-row bearings for the rear axles, huge wheel bearings on the front end, largest brakes in class, amazingly tough-and-reliable transmissions (something the Big 3 can't claim!), huge interiors, longevity, high resale.

With heavier-duty springs and shocks, and 10-ply tires, the 2/2.5 gen Tundra would be a 3/4-ton-equivalent truck.

2021 Pro!! Nitto’s Tyger blades, Arc audio!
I’m with you on getting use to it. My first full size truck. All my other Toyota were Tacoma’s or 4Runner’s. The worst part I hate is finding parking when you go somewhere or driving in tight areas. I don’t need a full size truck. But the wife don’t want me to give up my LunaRock Pro. I get a lot of compliments on it and I’m afraid I may regret it going back to a Tacoma Pro. I’m in a good position to do it since my truck has no been paid off for quite sometime. But every time I drive it I love the sound!!

I run mine pretty hard and am very attentive to proper maintenance. It just feels completely unstoppable. I know other drivetrains have more low end grunt and work less to tow the same load, but I am fully confident in this truck’s ability to handle anything I want to throw at it.

Let other people make purchasing decisions on depreciating assets based on looks, numbers on paper, and first impressions. I want the one that has the most life left at the end of the warranty and the value retention to prove it.

Mine took awhile of tweaking to get it where I wanted. There was a lot of annoyances that almost pushed me to sell it. Things like all the door and seat belt chimes, the complete inability to use 6th gear or have cruise control not constantly in 4th on the interstate, shitty ride quality due to a previous spacer lift, etc. Not one thing that was horrible on its own, but multiple straws on the camel's back. After modifying it to fit myself, I now absolutely love it and think it's a very fun vehicle--but definitely a time where I was seriously considering anything else.

If you never haul or tow anything with your truck like my brother does with his Sierra then, yes, you can get better fuel economy in another brand. However, I get the same or better fuel economy towing my travel trailer than my father in law does towing his smaller trailer with his EcoBoost (though I think he has a 6 speed as well).
