So this is very confusing but today I was driving my tundra and hit a decent bump going around 40mph. I saw the traction control light come on and jus thought it was losing traction during the bump. I drive home mostly highway once I get off my traction control light starts blinking and my acceleration is effected. I get home and take it around the block and the abs light comes on as well as the vsc off and 4h light starts blinking. I replaced my wheel bearing earlier that day and the backing plate was rusted so bad that I took off and it crumpled. I replaced the wheel bearing without the backing plate idk if the bump is the problem or I messed up one of the wires when doing the wheel bearing. Please help!!!

I checked the abs sensors and did not see anything visibly wrong with them? Why would problem have happened so long after I hit that bump?

Also make sure to clean your battery connections. I dying battery can cause all kind of electrical gremlins

Super easy. Abs sensor is the wheel speed sensor. Did you pull any codes? A reader will tell you what sensor is causing the problem. If it's the same wheel you just replaced the bearing on could be that missing backing plate...

I had a bad bearing in a rear wheel this last spring. Code was telling me abs sensor and when I pulled it, it was full of grease and smelled awful. Changed the bearing, cleaned the sensor and perfecto. All was well again.

Yes since the backing plate is missing and there was probably loose dust in there I think the combination of both of those may have moved or gotten the abs sensor dirty. Also I only have a code puller from auto zone would this be able to pull those codes or do I need something more fancy?

That should work. And your likely right that the jarring hit made the sensor dirty so it's throwing the codes which cause your dash light to come on.

If I pull the bearing off and clean the abs things should return to normal right?

That's the first step in eliminating it as a problem. You shouldn't have to pull the bearing to get to the sensor though.

The bolt is so rusted I won’t be able to get it off. I’m going to put the rusted backing plate back on would it work to clean it from the inside since I have to take the wheel bearing off anyways?

Photos please. Best way to check if tone ring is gunned up is to remove sensor and look into the hole with a flashlight. If tone ring is full of oil or grease it indicates a failed seal.

Update I took the wheel bearing off because the abs sensor bolt was rusted on so bad and to put the backing plate back on. Once we took the the wheel bearing off I could see gunk all over the sensor. Cleaned it off re installed and all lights went away. Next time I install I’ll make sure no loose rust or grime is in there. Thank you all for the help!!!

I am totally confused. The abs sensor goes into the bearing assembly that you just replaced. How could the nut be frozen, as you had to move both the sensor and the stud to the new bearing assy. Also how did the new assembly get filled with gunk, as it was a brand new part you just installed? The is no grease in that area of the part. Did you replace the axle seal?

I just did these bearings last week, so fresh in my mind. Frankly i am surprised you got the sensors out. I barely got the first one out and broke the second.
